Is there a tutorial or plugin to convert links to custom post type? I would like to add new functionality and assign links to individuals which is easier to accomplish with custom post types. The inventory of links and link categories has already been created so I’d rather convert the links to custom post type instead of starting from scratch.

@sanchothefat mentioned this several months ago in Trac and I was wondering if anyone started working on the conversion yet? I’d rather not duplicate the effort if it has already been done, or at least started.

    Hi @privatestorm,

I’m afraid I haven’t got round to writing the conversion script yet. Just the post type plugin and adding back in the related metaboxes for xfn etc…

I think discussion was heading towards just using wordpress menus and a menu widget to manage lists of links.

The conversion script might take a little while as it maps most columns to postmeta. I’ve subscribed to this thread so I’ll post a github link here when I’ve something ready to try out.

Thanks for the update. Using menus might be the right option for a lot of people, but for the project I’m currently working on I have a much different type of implementation planned.

@privatestorm, are you still working on this? I’m implementing links as a custom post type, and would be happy to share code if you’re still interested.

(and yes, for the same reason as you’re doing it – to be able to associate individual links with other site content using P2P)

@ancawonka No, this is a project that I haven’t gotten back to working on yet. I would definitely appreciate any code you have to share.

@ancawonka I just found this thread – and what you implemented is just what I am planing right now. So I would be happy if you could share some code you created for this.

Thank you so much in advance!
