• I did an automatic upgrade after saving my site to XML. And now my site won’t come up properly. I am using WordPress as a CMS and blog. The main page was coming up as the blog. So I tried to fix that and now I can’t get into the admin page and the main page comes up with no CSS.

I can’t restore my site because the admin page will not come up. I get a 404 error

Try downloading 3.0 then copying over the installation on your site. That worked for some people

Ah hah! When I switched my theme to the new default everything worked again. But as nice as that theme is, I want my old theme. I may just write over it with a new version and see if that fixes it.

Thanks planet999, it fixed mine too. I still get the errors I posted in a different thread (until I removed the DEBUG) so there’s still something broken in the code but it’s at least visible again.

“copying over the installation on your site”

I’m not exactly sure what that means. Other than my File Manager in my host, I can’t really affect anything.

I can’t do anything from inside WP.

    Site is down too

    Prost,

Do you use FTP? If you do, what I mean is download the latest version of WordPress from the download page of this site. Then copy the files over the ones on your server. It solved the problem for others. It sounds like some of the files on your upgrade didn’t take.

    Planet,

I think you’re right. In the end, I copied all the 2.92 files on my FTP over the Wp3.0 downloads.

It worked, which also substantiates your theory.

What you suggest would probably ensure I get 3.0 but I think I’ve had enough drama for one day. A soccer site can’t really afford to be down during the World Cup.

Thanks to the guys who checked this out for me.

My site is up but I can’t enter the admin part now.

    It asks me:

    WordPress
    Database Upgrade Required

WordPress has been updated! Before we send you on your way, we have to upgrade your database to the newest version.

The upgrade process may take a little while, so please be patient.

I am reluctant but I can’t edit my site until I try – euch!

I had this problem using the automatic upgrade too, but the manual install fixed it just fine. I had to do the database update as well, but it took under a minute.

That update message is perfectly normal, Prost, and in fact, you saw it before between 2.8 and 2.9 πŸ™‚

I do hope you’re joking about that – that’s enough to get most shared hosting accounts suspended on most hosts for server resource abuse.

If you’re serious, then someone at Automattic needs their head on a plate.

I ran an auto-update and took down the entire server. Now the site has been turned off by the admin. Perhaps the auto-update should be tested a bit more?

A little more info: After running the auto-update and crashing the server… We attempted to FTP the 3.0 update and all appeared fine until we went to update the plug-ins and then the crash happened once again. Luckily I have the system admin sitting next to me and he could stop the server and roll back the site pre-update pretty quickly. 3.0 update process seems to have a pretty large flaw… Any insight would be much appreciated.

Sounds like you have an incompatible plugin or theme. Try deactivating all plugins and switching to the default theme before upgrading.

Hi, Sorry for duplicating but I have just installed version 3.0 and my site has gone down. The error message is:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_sidebar2() in /home/nyonproc/public_html/wp-content/themes/thegreenhouse/header.php on line 157

    Anyone able to offer help?

    Thanks.
