    Hi!

I wrote a new page and published it. Then I assigned it a parent, which is a page/item in the menu. It does not show up when I click on the parent page! I can go to the page if I type its url but ppl will have no way of finding it.

I need to be able to post many (possibly hundreds) short pages that are ads sort of craigslist style, under each menu item. I am using the attitude theme.

If I should be using a different theme or if I should be doing it as blog posts instead, let me know?

    TIA

    – You need to create a page from wp-admin->Pages and assign your template as the “Template”. Until you do that, WordPress won’t know where to find the “page” — won’t know what to do with the request — and you will get a 404.

    – In other words, while creating/editing pages in the Admin area, under “Page Attributes” in the right panel you select a template. make sure all templates have a call for the footer.

    – useful codex:

If you want a page to show up in your Menu (I think that’s what you’re saying?), you need to assign it to your menu in the Appearances > Menu.

the way you describe the use for short page ads and maybe 100’s of them, I think the post format would be better. Choose a category for those “craigslist style ads” and make sure you check that box each time you create a post for that category.

Then again in Appearances > Menu >

Add the Category (select your category) to the Main Menu and Save.

You should now see a summary of those ads which can be individually selected, etc.

There are other ways of customizing your view, but this gives you a starting point.

Love this community – so fast replies, thanks!

Tara – I have the template preselected as “default template” which would be the attitude child theme that I created and works great. The page itself is created and i can reach it fine from the url, I did not get a error message when creating it

janet4now – I tried your first suggestion now and it is not optimal as you said because it the post then only shows up in the menu and not on the page. I also just now tried the blog post with a category and placing the category as a sub item in the menu. It looks good, will have to see how it works out if i get more ads. Thanks:)

Oh It actually doesn’t work with the blog posting either because the category only show up when I hoover over the menu item i assigned them to and not when I click on the menu item and look at the page. also once I click the category in the drop down menu it takes me to a a category page that says no posts found. so again the post does not display.

    any more ideas?

I mean to make the category be your PARENT menu item. Do not assign a drop-down in this case. And make sure those posts are assigned the category you are trying to display.

That link has a good display of images for reference, though it is wordpress.com and not .org.
