Theme's Contact template corrupts page template

When changing a page template from Contact to Default Template, the theme’s contact form still shows.

Here’s what happened:

I tried changing my Contact page to use the theme’s Contact template. When I saw that the template includes its own form which could not be edited, I changed the page back to the Default Template. However, the new form was still part of the page. Changing to the Feature template hid the unwanted form. But, it still showed up whenever I changed the page to the Default Template.

To remedy, I trashed the page and recreated it. But, it makes me nervous about trying out any templates.

If the title of your page was “contact” and you select “default” then that defaults to the contact page template. It’s how the wordpress template structure works.

You can just use the “fullwidth” or “sidebar” page template to override what wordpress does by default.

If that is true, then the WordPress “template structure” doesn’t work properly either. Because, it only happens when I change the template to Contact and then back to Default Template.

The reason you see the contact form only when you first save the page as a contact template then switch back to “default” is because of the metaboxes. If your using the contact page template there are metaboxes that get saved. And because you can turn off the contact form in the metaboxes that meta information isn’t there unless you select the contact page template. So even though the “default template” is using the contact template because of the name it doesn’t show the forum until the metadata is saved for that page in the default “on” for the forum.

Hopefully this makes sense. I understand it’s confusing but there isn’t an error. It’s doing what it’s supposed to all you need to do is set the page to “sidebar” template which is the exact same code as what is used in page.php
