Contact Form 7 will not send.

  • I’ve got contact form 7 installed on my site. I am using a working email address, and have it entered in my wp settings and in the contact form. However, every time I try to sent a test email I get a failed to send message.
What I am I missing? Contact form 7’s docs don’t address this and here on this forum I see lots of people with a similiar issue but none resolved.

  • Thanks. But neither of those really offers a solution.

OK. What did you try? What was the result? Have you contacted the administrator of your mail server? What did he answer?

That’s my frustration. I don’t know what to try.
As far as I can tell everything is set up correctly. My mail server is Yahoo. I can’t see any issue on that end.

Hey I am having the same issue. I have taken the @ out of the email address and tried – or * and put the name in [ ] and about 50 different ways and now it says it has been sent but doesn’t come through. I know what you mean – no where in any of the documentation does it tell you how to enter the email address. Someone must have the answer to this so PLEASE HELP!! I’ll waste some more time and if I find a solution I’ll let you know.

I am starting to wonder if the problem was Yahoo.
I just changed things so the email goes to my gmail account and now it’s working fine.

More than likely, your server’s IP is blacklisted by Yahoo’s spam filters. All it takes is one spammer on the server to ruin it for everyone else. If you contact your hosting provider, they should be able to take care of it for you.

Well I have tried a gmail account and still nothing. Thought it may have been bigpond but not sure what to try next. Any suggestions someone?

I am experiencing the same issue. It is not because the server IP is blacklisted. Emails sent locally works fine, but any other emails are bounced. I believe there is a minor format error in the code where the server is seeing an extra ” < ” causing other servers to flag it. Below is the from my log file..

I’ll come back with more info soon!

    08:56:37 [15321] RSP: 221 2.0.0 closing connection m1si3946513qck.166
    08:56:37 [15321] Bounce email written to 1767896615323.eml
08:56:37 [15321] Delivery for <wordpress to pmdias82@gmail.com has completed (Bounced)

The SMTP needs to be authenticated. Download and install the WP Mail SMTP plugin. Once the local server information is added in Settings >> Email, the emails should get sent out to any outside email addresses.

I’ve had the same problem and I definitely point it to Yahoo. One thing different with Yahoo is that you can’t specify the root level of the site for the install.. I initial set up a test folder for the site (to keep the existing site live during the build) and everything worked fine in there.. When I moved the site to be live, contact form 7 & contact form 7 widget both stopped working. I tried using the SMTP plugin too but I can’t get ‘permission’ from the server

The SMTP debugging output is shown below:
SMTP -> ERROR: Failed to connect to server: Permission denied (13)

Also tried all that was listed above, emails with the same url and different ones too..

any other thoughts? i’m about to move it and just put it on my server b/c I’m just running in circles with the troubleshooting, but hate to give up!
