    Hi,

    Thanks for a great plugin!

I previously followed your instructions on how to add Contact Form 7 to the REST API exceptions (adding contact-form-7 to the box at bottom of the Hardening page) and it worked well until recently.

Now using CF7 ver. 5.0.1 and WP-Cerber ver 6.5 I have the same problem again.

As soon as I disable WP-Cerber, the problem goes away…

Whether I have the REST API checked or not, the visual turning-gear of the form submittal keeps turning and the form isn’t submitted. I then see a Form Submission Denied on the Dashboard.

Apparently, people were unable to use the contact form for a while now (maybe a month? I was just now notified)… so I don’t think it has to do with the latest version of both plugins (which I just updated).

Is it possible that the solution that you provided before, that worked very well, stopped working for some reason?

    Many Thanks!
    JF

The problem appears to be broader and might not have anything to do with Contact form 7:

I now have my user denied access even though his fixed IP address is on the white list (and has been for a long time). I checked and his IP remained the same as the one on the white list.

This happens with the REST API switch on or off…

I had to disable the plugin to allow my site owner access. That’s not a good situation.

I hope you can respond soon so I can restore plugin operation.

    Thank you again,
    JF

    Hi!

What causes have been logged by the plugin for those lockouts? Spam? Probing for vulnerable code? Something else?

    Hi Gioni,

If I understand your question, I don’t know where to find the answer.

In the activity log, when I click on the line item for my user, where it says on the right Form Submission Denied, and it takes me to the several instances he was denied, there is no explanation as to why he was rejected. AND, it clearly shows that the IP is on the white list.

I thought that IPs on the white list should never be rejected. Am I mistaken on this? OR, is there a setting where I can set it to be that way?

    Thanks!

Could you test out the latest development version, I’ve fixed a small bug: https://wpcerber.com/development-version-6-5-5/

Yes, IPs in the white access list are not locked out unless they do something terribly wrong like attempting to submit malware.

    Thanks!

I’m glad you clarified the treatment of white-list IPs. I can assure you that the primary user of this website did nothing of the like… 🙂

In the meantime, because I didn’t want to leave the site owner locked-out or the site without protection, I installed ver. 6.1. The problem is ‘solved’… That is, whatever the issue is, it must have been introduced after ver. 6.1

I’m not able to do the testing right now — the site owner is actively using his site, and then he’s going away for a month so I won’t be able to replicate the original problem… But I will continue to follow up this support discussion item in the hope that you will update the status and indicate that you were able to solve it.

Thank you again for your help and for a great plugin!

Actually, I’m awaiting for your feedback regarding the latest version. Please let me know once you’ve tested it.

Sorry, Gioni. I thought I explained it.

I cannot test the update at the moment because my own IP address wasn’t blocked. It was the site’s owner IP address (in a different country), and he is away traveling for 2-6 weeks. After he returns I can try to do that, but I am not sure you should wait for this because it might be a while.

    I hope you understand…

    Thank you again,
    JF

Just wanted to let you guys know that I have exactly the same problem since updating to the latest version. Fortunately, in my clients case it’s okay to simply deactivate the plugin and wait for a fix / next update.

However, what I haven’t tried before, is “contact-form-7” as an exception. I’ll try this one first and let you guys know if this solved the problem here.

I just wanted to let you know that something that worked fine with contact form 7 previously now suddenly doesn’t work anymore.

@jdaniel If you’ve disabled REST API and use Contact Form 7, yes, you have to whitelist the contact-form-7 namespace on the Hardening tab. Nothing can be easier: https://wpcerber.com/restrict-access-to-wordpress-rest-api/

    Yes, works!

    Hi Gioni,

As promised earlier, I wanted to let you know that the problems reported earlier — my user not able to access his site — remain in effect on version 6.7

Therefore, I removed WP Cerber and reinstalled it afresh, having also removed the 8 DB tables associated with the plugin.

Right now I have a new problem: In version 6.7, I am unable to enter IP addresses to the White List. Without this feature, I will not be able to use the plugin. Until you fix this, would it be possible to download ver 6.5? I hope it will work there.

I am posting this problem separately…

    Thank you again,

    Hi, JF!

    How is it going?

    Hi Gioni,

    Thanks for following up!

    This issue was resolved here:

    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/rest-api-appears-to-be-blocked-even-when-off/

If you can read my last response there, it would be great if a future version could allow using the wildcard option for people in my situation. And, yes, I understood your reply to my comment.

Many thanks for your support and for following up!

    JF
