I’m investigating this plugin for a group I’m part of. We already have a WP website so that’s not an issue. We haven’t tried the free version yet but if we like it we’ll want the Pro version for the additional documents and the versioning, etc.

    Here are my questions:

    1) I assume all users must have a WP user login, right? I’m wondering how complex that’ll be for non-WP users. Do they get a special user level that only gives them access to DMS and nothing else?

    2) Can we also FTP to bulk-upload files into a directory structure to get started? We have a ton of documents.

    3) Is the Pro fee a one-time or annual fee? If annual does it reduce after the initial purchase?

    4) Are there any file-type limitations? We will store jpgs and other graphic images in addition to Word & PDF.

    Thanks,
    Sheila in Seattle

    Hello,

User permissions in the DMS plugin are independent of WordPress as the DMS plugin has a separate permissions system. The top-level folders must be configured by an administrator. Sub-folders can be managed by users if they have the proper permissions set in the parent folder.

Bulk uploads can be accomplished by copying/unpacking the documents to a folder structure on the server. (DMS Pro only) Then, once a folder is created, in the DMS Plugin, and properly configured it will read from the folder structure on the server.

Presently, DMS pro is a one-time fee of $95.00.

Any documents, including jpg’s, can be uploaded.

Thanks for the helpful and speedy response. But if this is setup on a WP page and I don’t want the world to have access won’t I have to hide the page and give a p/w to view it? How is that handled?

    Hello,

I just checked and there are plugins that will allow you to restrict access to a WP page. I have not tried any of them, however.

If the DMS plugin page is available to everyone, a user will only be able to access the folder and/or documents for which they have the permission to access. The DMS plugin can easily have the permissions set to only give access to authenticated users that have the appropriate permissions set to access the folders and/or documents.

Since the functions we’re most interested in are in the Pro version I’m wondering if either you have a trial website with Pro on it or if you have a trial period before purchase (or refund after purchase before end of trial)? I have to try setting an example up for them to see if they will be comfortable with this solution before they will commit to the expense. Thanks.

    Hello,

If you register at http://www.blitzenware.com I can give you a folder with edit permissions so that you can experiment with some of the features in the Pro version.
