    Hi,

Last week, we started getting the dreaded error “Connection lost. Saving has been disabled until you’re reconnected. We’re backing up this post in your browser, just in case”.

It occurs whenever we try to update or publish a post. Interestingly, if we wait awhile, the error disappears and eventually, the post does publish.

We haven’t noticed anything out of the ordinary on the website itself: only in admin. We also had no changes on the site content or plugins or anything in the time then issue started occurring: it was over a weekend, and we weren’t active.

We are hosted with GoDaddy, and I had a call with them mentioning the blacklist issues that other forum members mentioned, but they said that was not the case. We turned off all of our plugins one-by-one, but the issue till occurred.

We turned off the child theme (Metrolium,1.2.1), but it still occurred. The only time it did not occur was when we reverted to one of the standard WordPress themes. I reached out to the theme author for support, but have not heard back in a few days. Although my troubleshooting steps seem to point to the theme, I find this surprising since it’s a commonly used theme.

It happens with all users and all browsers.

Is there anything else I can do to try to isolate and resolve the issue myself?

    Thanks!

    Danya

  • You could try this.
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php#Modify_AutoSave_Interval

But it pretty clearly is a theme problem.

    Thanks.

I tried setting the AutoSave at 300 seconds, but no luck.

If I’m having trouble getting support from the theme developer, is there anything else I can do to identify and fix the specific issue on my own?

Thanks so much! The Chrome console did find one error, related to the WPML multilingual plugin:

    GET http://raymark.com/wp-content/plugins/sitepress-multilingual-cms/res/flags/qc.png 404 (Not Found)

Any idea how I can fix this?

    Support is here,
http://themeforest.net/item/metrolium-responsive-multipurpose-wp-theme/5018371/support and that is probably where you tried.

We turned off all of our plugins one-by-one, but the issue till occurred.

You should turn all the plugins off then restore on-by-one. Is that the way you did it?

If using Chrome you can turn of the developer tools while you try to post. That might show a javascript error.

You can also change the wp-config.php from define('WP_DEBUG', false); to define('WP_DEBUG', true); and see if any errors are reported.

    Rename plugins/sitepress-multilingual-cms to plugins/sitepress-multilingual-cms-old

I can’t just deactivate the multilingual plugin. It brings my whole site down when it’s off.

Here’s the error I got when I turned on debug mode and tried to reproduce the issue:

To your earlier point, “You should turn all the plugins off then restore on-by-one. Is that the way you did it?”, no I renamed them and renamed them back.

Sorry, I didn’t figure that error right at all.

GET http://raymark.com/wp-content/plugins/sitepress-multilingual-cms/res/flags/qc.png 404 (Not Found) Means /res/flags/qc.png is not there.

Yes, I uploaded an image for the flag before running WP debug and posting the longer error above. Adding the image solved the error in Chrome developer console, but the Connection lost error still occurs. Any idea about the other errors above? Can I reset plugins without losting settings and data?

Disabling plugins by renaming the plugin folder plugins-old should not result in any lost data. All data is stored in the database.

    (@danyamarie)

That’s pretty much what I did. i renamed all the plugin folders, then names them back to reactivate.

Any ideas how I might be able to resolve this issue?

I am sorry but other than hiring someone to rework the theme, no.

http://www.eski.io/support/sign-in is where I see support instead of ThemeForest.

http://www.eski.io/documentation/metrolium/ is documentation and contact is http://www.eski.io/#contact

They still sell the theme so I am not sure why support seems to be lagging.

Updating in case others are having similar issues…

After weeks of back-and-forth trying to get assistance from different places, I decided to change hosts. When I migrated my site to SiteGround, the issue persisted. I asked one of their technicians to look at it, and only 10 minutes later, it was resolved!

Here’s the cause the technician found:
“I had to uninstall the GoDaddy’s gd-system-plugin plugin and comment their code on the script file. That has solved the issue and also the site’s speed was increased significantly.”

After wasting my time, yours, the theme author’s, and other folks I consulted (only after multiple calls with GD), it turns out the issue was theirs all along!

    Amazing!

Anyway, thanks kmessinger for your help, and I hope this update will help others. I will definitely give GD a call to let them know so they can home fully address the issue on their side for future customers. As for me, I’ll be moving my website to SG!
