I’m using The7 theme that comes packaged with Visual Composer.

    All other plugins deactivated:
    • When I have the Visual Composer plugin activated AND the Yoast SEO plugin activated, I get a “Connect Lost” error while I am editing a page.
    • When I deactivate the Yoast SEO plugin but leave the Visual Composer plugin activate, I do not get the “Connection Lost” error when editing a page.
    • When I deactivate the Visual Composer plugin but leave the Yoast SEO plugin active, I do not get the “Connection Lost” error when editing a page.

I am running the latest version of WordPress, the latest version of Yoast SEO, and the latest version of Visual Composer.

  • You may need to increase your default memory allocated to WordPress, since this is clearly not specific to this plugin. Visual Composer needs extra RAM allocated; this is why you get a problem with VC on, but not Yoast. So, also worth seeing support forum for VC, since that is causing the problem, not the Yoast plugin. 🙂

The default RAM for WordPress is 40M, but you need to put a line in your wp-config.php file to increase to 64M or 96M. See the wordpress.org codex (docs) on how to edit your wp-config.php file.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I tried your suggestion of increasing the memory limit and it didn’t seem to resolve the issue. Same behavior occurs.

The problem must be related to Yoast in some way, as the error DOES NOT occur when Yoast SEO if turned off. It only occurs when they are both turned on. I do not experience this on any other site that I manage with these same plugins (numerous) so I’m kind of stumped as to why this specific site is experiencing this problem. They are all on the latest versions and I did fresh installs as well.

I have already searched thoroughly through the VC support and comments sections, which is why I thought posting here to see if anyone else had experienced a similar issue.

Yes, it’s a common issue with Visual Composer, which is a resource and memory hog. You also need to increase your default php settings, not just in the wp-config file, to allow more memory, increase default process time, etc.

Also remember to do basic stuff with plugins
    a) resave permalinks after updates
    b) optimize database with wp-optimize
    c) minimize use of external plugins (Jetpack, etc.) which can slow down site waiting for those things outside your domain to load
    d) disable any plugins which change behavior/design of your admin panels if having problems.

Based on your note here, it does appear to be a VC issue:
When I deactivate the Visual Composer plugin but leave the Yoast SEO plugin active, I do not get the “Connection Lost” error when editing a page.

    Thanks for the additional info.

    a) I re-saved permalinks, no change.
    b) Installed and ran, no change.
    c) Problem persist even when all other plugins / add-ons are turned off. Only YOAST and VC activated.
    d) Problem persist even when all other plugins / add-ons are turned off. Only YOAST and VC activated.

Yes, I understand that the problem goes away when I turn off VC. But the problem also goes away when I turn off YOAST and leave VC on. So it goes both ways. Them being activated together is causing the issue.

I have checked the hosting account and there are no issues on that end.

For the first link you provided: I’ve added a php.ini file to increase allotted memory there as well. No change.
For the second link you provided: I ran a test on pingdom and didn’t notice any abnormal results that would indicate any issues.

So when you get a dbase connection lost error ..
what does the server error log say ?
