    Recently I get this message when trying to update plugins. Is this a new feature?

    To perform the requested action, WordPress needs to access your web server. Please enter your FTP credentials to proceed. If you do not remember your credentials, you should contact your web host.

    It’s not new, but it suddenly appearing indicates something has changed in your server’s file permissions. The user WP runs as in Apache should own all the files and folders within its installation. This can be a PITA to fix when it’s not already setup that way. I’ve found it easier to give WP the FTP credentials rather than faff about with permissions.
