I am fairly new to WordPress.org, and I created a blog using 0fees. However, when I try adding/deleting a plugin, installing a theme, and updating my version of WordPress, a “Connection Information” screen pops up. On the screen, the following details pop up:

    Connection Information
To perform the requested action, connection information is required.

Hostname [blank space to enter hostname]
Username [blank space to enter username]
Password [blank space to enter password]
    Connection Type (Select one) FTP
    FTPS (SSL)

I tried looking at the Docs, but I could not find an answer. Can anyone help me, please?

You need to enter your FTP host, username and password. If you don’t have these details already, contact your hosts.

The first problem is solved, however, now I have another one. I enter all of my details in correctly, but whenever I try installing or updating something, this message comes up on my screen:

Unable to locate WordPress Content directory (wp-content).

(And thank you to esmi for helping me with my first issue.)

Where did you install WordPress on your domain and what is your site url?

I am unsure about the first question you asked. Can you clarify what you mean, please? I am hosting my blog using 0fees with the vistapanel. My website URL is http://saymajello.0fees.net/blog/.

Did you install WordPress in the blog sub-folder of your site? And why are you using WP 2.8.5 instead of 2.9.2? Right now, you could be at far greater risk of being hacked because you’re a few versions behind.

I did install WordPress in a blog subfolder on my website.

I am using WordPress 2.8.5 because I am unable to automatically install version 2.9.2. I have tried numerous times to upgrade, and have not been successful in doing so. This message appears whenever I try to update my version of the WordPress software:

Unable to locate WordPress Root directory.

    Installation Failed

Have a look at this possible solution.
