• hello, and thank you to anyone who can help.
I know very little, my apologies in advance.
laster year I built a wp site, connected w s3 with other plugin called s3, seems little used/ and for this new site, it said not tested to work for my version, so Im here trying s3 and cloudfront, last site/s3 plug in was no problem, well except it seemed only people using chrome could download a vid, if you have any thoughts on that later, let me know. for now, moving on, just wanted to show I know a little, I was helped connecting with s3, but I think all i did was put the keys into my plug in. but i believe i may need to do more for next site building now.

have the recent wp, site is hosted, have Easy Digital Downloads, a free theme called Shop Front for selling downloads installed, got the s3 and cloudfront plug in obviously. I should say I have the main theme not the child theme for Shop Front in use, both are downloaded and avail.
should I use the Shop Front Child theme instead?

So i have the aws s3, they advised making an iam, I have given the keys to my site and the bucket wasn’t there or should say can’t connect therewith. was advised to put the keys into the php instead of using the form on the plugin form of my site. but that didnt work, so was told to use form, didn’t work.

was I supposed to go back to s3 and do something with permissions?
I haven’t loaded anything into bucket, im going to use short test video after i know everythings connected.
right now im getting “Error saving bucket: Failed to retrieve bucket region.”

i have deactivated parent theme and activated child theme, still get failed to retrieve bucket region”

as somewhere i was advised to create an iam on aws, i did, but im the only person who will have access to the s3 thing so maybe that’s uneccessary… i created it, was I supposed to put that name as a grantee inthe permissions area. right now the only permission is the beginning portion of my email address i used for aws.

sorry I am learning slowly. i have tried to type the bucket name into the plugin and same error msg.

does it matter what browser I use while doing all of this?

should i go to permissions in the aws console and add another grantee and make it authorized user and put in the iam name I made up, or the name of my site? i think someone helped my last time on this step and it was last year so I don’t remember.

was it a bad idea to insert code into the php area? i had the host people check it and it said it was ok. i just pasted it in, replaced the *’s with the api and secret keys on the two lines, checked them carefully for accuracy and saved. there is one character that is just a vertical line, so I assumed a capital I as opposed to a lower case l as in learn.

also, should I just use the wp 2015 or 2014 them, not the shopfront theme, and use Easy Digital Download plug in with this new s3 and cloudfront plug in and it will work better?

my apologies for writing so much, hope you can follow it, and can give appropriate positive advice in simple language.

meant to add, started the iam process have done 2/5 as i created a name but havent done other steps like mfa etc. it says i have deleted the root key..im guessing this iam only has to do with who has access to my aws account, as opposed to letting my site download from the bucket, right? should I ditch the iam? complete all five steps?
