Confusion around hosting and plugins! (3 posts)

So I have decided to move my blog over from Blogger to WordPress, but I seem to have gotten MEGA confused along the way and would really appreciate it if someone were able to provide me with a little clarity as I'm starting to feel really down-heartened! I'd already started the move across when I realised that something wasn't right so I hope all of the effort that I've been to hasn't gone to waste...

Basically I moved my posts over to WordPress.com and after playing around with it all for a little, I noticed that there wasn't an option to add plugins. I moved my domain name across and paid the WordPress fee for the year (about £9) to register it (?), hoping this would resolve it but it hasn't! Apparently plugins can only be added on WordPress.org, self-hosted sites.
I've been looking into it and I now have to pay £100 to a hosting company (I'm only a fairly new blogger looking to take the next step up!) to get it hosted externally before I can get access to plugins?

Is there no other way I can get access to plugins without having to pay such a lot of money? I know that you get what you pay for etc etc but on a student income having to pay for an URL, registration on wordpress and now this, it's not something I think I can afford! If there is no other way I will have to convert everything back to Blogger which I really don't want to have to do!

Sorry for the rabling, I hope it makes sense! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry but there isn't. If you're short on funds, I can only suggest that you stick with wordpress.com for now.
