• I have not built my blog yet because I need to know how to set it up before I begin. I want to have a main blog and then two other blogs linked to the main one. I want a personal blog as the main one with sub-blogs about health and travel. I already have domain names for the health and travel blogs, I just want them to be under my main blog which will get a new domain once I start everything. Would I still be able to use the domain names if I create subdomains under my main blog? How would the url look, would they also include my main blog url and then a slash and then the separate domain names? Like 1www.personalblog/travel.com1 and 1www.personalblog/health.com1? Or would they be their own url? Can I attach the existing domain names to these subdomains or would they be no good anymore if I put them under the main one? My main objective is to keep the url’s but connect them to my personal blog, I guess that is a simple way to ask this question. I know I can make categories for these other subjects but I didn’t want to lose my domain names I already have for them.

  • You can create your multisite on subdomain, if you install from domain.com you can add subdomains to domain.com, from WordPress 4.5 after creating the secondary sites you can click on edit and map to any domain you have (domain mapping applies without plugins and on secondary sites).
Attention the url you indicate are add on, that is subdomain for your hosting but they also have a url path if your hosting redirects from http://domain.com/yoursite.com in http://domain.com/ you can create secondary sites on subdomains ns1.domain.com ns2.domain.com etc, in this case I don’t know what to say. You need to talk to your hosting, if it is possible to transform them into full-fledged subdomains.
Read this to create your network.

    Before You Create A Network

What do you want to do?

You can post to separate categories and point your extra domains at the categories…

You can hang separate blogs on those domains off your present hosting if you want.

    You can build a multisite.

You can cross-post… you can cross-post snippets.

I am trying to understand the differences between all these options but I feel even more confused now, lol they all sound like they would do the same thing. I don’t know what a lot of these terms mean and the link to creating a network was even more confusing. I will have to try to find a video that explains this visually in simple terms.

Check to see if you can have the three sites on your one webhost. Most can!

From that point it’s a choice of either a multisite or the three sites on the one host.

If you can only have one site then you can go with the one site or move to a different host.

If you go with the one ‘single’ site you can point your two extra domains at the categories instead until you do something else later like split the sites off.

I don’t have a webhost yet but I have been hearing good things about BlueHost so I am probably gonna go with them, WordPress tends to lean towards them anyway. And i believe some options let you have multiple websites.

So it is possible to point other domains at categories? So that I will have 3 links to the same site, technically? That would be perfect!
