    Dear Yoast Team

Withe the latest update(s) your plugin causes a lot of conflicts. I did a “healthcheck” and obviously SEO Yoast is the root cause. Once I deactivate your plugin everything is ok. I have a second website where I have similar problems and after deactivation the plugin SEO Yoast everything is ok too.
    Major Problems:
    1. The customizer for the theme isn’t accessible. White page with error message
    2. Pages with google maps don’t work
    3. Website is extremely slow

Currently I have SEO Yoast deactivated.
I see many other issue tickets within the last days which maybe indicates similar problems.

    Best Regards
    Michael

We are sorry to hear that you are having trouble with our plugin and it’s must be frustrating for you. Let’s see what’s going on here.

    #1 Customizer not available
Can you please confirm whether you can access the theme customizer options when the default 2020 theme is active? You can use the Health Check plugin in the troubleshooting mode to activate the default theme.

In addition, please share the relevant error message that you’re seeing so that we can understand the issue better.

    #2 Google Maps don’t work
Can you please confirm how did you add Google Maps to your site? Does it come with the theme or you’re using a 3rd party plugin?

In addition, please share the exact page URL where the issue remains occurring for you so that we can take a look at it.

    #3 Website is extremely slow
Can you please confirm which part (page) of your website is extremely slow? Is it on the edit page or somewhere else?

In addition, can you please confirm whether you have performed the SEO data optimization from the SEO → Tools page?

Last but not least, can you please confirm the total how many posts/pages do you have on your site?

We look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for your response @michaelrieder.

Can you please confirm if everything is updated on your site including all other plugins/themes/WP?

Also, to further isolate the issue, we would like to know:

    #1 Customizer not available
-> If you have the only theme and Yoast SEO 15.5 activated, are you getting the same behavior?
-> If the issue persists, can you provide any errors you are getting on your console?

    #2 Google Maps don’t work
-> If you switch to the default WordPress theme and enable only Yoast SEO 15.5 and Google Maps Easy, are you getting the same behavior?

    #3 Website is extremely slow
-> If you only have the default WordPress theme and Yoast SEO 15.5, is the site still slow?
-> If you run the SEO Data Optimization in SEO > Tools, does it improve your site speed?

We look forward to your response.

    Hi Jerlyn
Thank you for your support questions. Here are my answers:
#1 I don’t have any console error. Yoast SEO 15.5 is installed. All plugins and themes are up to date. I have deactivated all plugins and activated one by one again.
Eventually I figured out that 3 plugins cause the error behavior. Yoast SEO, Events Made Easy and Content Timeline.
    #2 Yes
#3 I do run SEO Data Optimization which maybe helps with the speed but for each page and post.

I think it is a conflict between the 3 plugin mentioned above but I don’t know why and how to reveal the error.

@michaelrieder Thanks for your reply and for the additional information.

Regarding your issue, unfortunately as the Content Timeline plugin is a premium plugin and not available in the WordPress plugin repository, we aren’t able to try testing the issue ourselves to see whether we can replicate it.

Can you confirm which version of this plugin you are using? Is it 5.0.1?

    (@michaelrieder)

    Hi Carl

Yes I can confirm using Version 5.0.1 (December 25th, 2019).
Since more than one year there hadn’t been any update for that plugin. Therefore I guess content-timeline doesn’t cause the error by itself!??

@michaelrieder Can you please confirm whether the issue still occurs when using a default theme such as TwentyNineteen? Does the error message you previously included in your reply occur when using TwentyNineteen?

Regarding the error ‘There has been a critical error on your website’, this is a generic error from WordPress, and when this occurs a more detailed error message is then sent to the admin email for WordPress. Can you please check for this email and let us know the detailed error information that WordPress logged?

You can check what address this is set to in WordPress by going to Settings>General and checking the value for ‘Administration Email Address.’

If you aren’t receiving the automated email from WordPress that accompanies this error, we would recommend reviewing your spam settings, since it is an automated email email it can be sometimes automatically flagged as spam.

    Hi Carl

Thanks for your support. I made further investigations. With the standard theme TwentyTwentyone my website was able to open the customizer but other issues still remains.
In my debug-log I can see messages like “Allowed memory size of 104857600 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 20480 bytes)”… despite the memory size is 256 Mb.
Can this be an indicator that Yoast SEO is not causing the issue by itself but contributes because of using large memory size?
    Best Regards

    @michaelrieder Thanks for your reply.

Regarding your question, yes, that is certainly possible.

As for the error of ‘Allowed memory size of 104857600 bytes exhausted’, this error occurs when your server runs out of memory to complete the task at hand. Increasing the memory allotted or decreasing the number of tasks should correct this the issue.

In order to fix the error, you’ll need to increase the maximum allowed memory by reaching out your web hosting provider. If you’re familiar with server management, you can change the memory_limit value directly from the php.ini file, such as in the following example:

    memory_limit = 512M

Please refer to our guide to learn more about this at the following link:
    https://yoast.com/help/common-installation-update-errors/#memory-exhausted

Can you please try the aforementioned suggestions and let us know whether increasing the PHP memory setting resolves your issue?
