Conflicts, overrides, and just a bully of a plugin

NextGen is ok. That’s about all I can say for it. It does what it does about as well as can be expected but the plugin just has so much going on with it that it conflicts with everything else. First it takes over jQuery, then it takes over FontAwesome. This wouldn’t be a problem except that it loads an old version of FontAwesome that doesn’t include some of the newer icons for social media. If you try to override it, good luck. On an IIS server, it’s even hardcoded to check and load its own copy. That’s nice as a fallback, but to not give the option to override that or stop it? That seems very bullish.
If you need a robust gallery plugin, this is it. Just make sure you know what you’re doing otherwise you’ll waste hours trying to fix all the conflicts. I’ve been doing WP dev for about 6 years now and NextGen is always the one plugin I’m constantly fighting. If it didn’t do its central job so well, it would have been replaced a long time ago.
