• NextGen is ok. That’s about all I can say for it. It does what it does about as well as can be expected but the plugin just has so much going on with it that it conflicts with everything else. First it takes over jQuery, then it takes over FontAwesome. This wouldn’t be a problem except that it loads an old version of FontAwesome that doesn’t include some of the newer icons for social media. If you try to override it, good luck. On an IIS server, it’s even hardcoded to check and load its own copy. That’s nice as a fallback, but to not give the option to override that or stop it? That seems very bullish.

If you need a robust gallery plugin, this is it. Just make sure you know what you’re doing otherwise you’ll waste hours trying to fix all the conflicts. I’ve been doing WP dev for about 6 years now and NextGen is always the one plugin I’m constantly fighting. If it didn’t do its central job so well, it would have been replaced a long time ago.

@dpkonofa – Thank you very much for the great feedback and your rating (even though it is only two stars) … we will look into these concerns; and, obviously, please feel free to open new support topics as needed to address concerns you find with your specific site(s).

    Thanks!

@photocrati – I take my reviews with a bit of seriousness, which is why I gave your plugin two stars. If you are able to fix these issues, I’m always willing to revise my review. The biggest issue, as I mentioned, is simply the amount of things that NG overrides. I’ve run into several situations where I’ve had to comment out things in NG to get it to play nice. Not a big deal, but it’s a pain to have all these “custom” versions of NG running on our different sites.

I realize that making a plugin like this is no easy task, though, so please know that my 2 stars are merely a reflection of my usage of the plugin thus far. For most people, your plugin is probably perfect.

@dpkonofa – As much as a 5-star rating is valued as a visual metric, your candid and relevant review points and feedback are much more important.

These are the types of review that really grab our team’s attention.

Again, thank you very much for your time … we look forward to giving you reasons to reconsider your star rating (hopefully improved) but if nothing else, we would greatly appreciate your time to continue to let us know how we are doing, especially in compatibilities as that is one of our touch-stone benchmarks we are always trying to improve upon.
