Conflict with WP Retina 2x

I was recently trying to add retina image support to a site using the WP Retina 2x plugin and discovered that it is incompatible with Lazy Load.

There is a support forum thread for that plugin that discusses the problem and likely cause, but there has not been a solution. It would be great to have Lazy Load developers weigh in on it. Thanks.
