I run a website that recruits and trains volunteers in the tech industry to tech computer science to high school students across the US. I’d like to use your plugin to serve as a curriculum repository of teaching lessons, lectures, quizzes, etc. in the form of PPT, DOC, XLS and possibly TXT (for sample Java source files).

The teachers evaluating the plugin functionality claim that they can’t find the following functionality. Can you please (a) confirm the following capabilities and (b) provide pointers to enabling the said features?

-custom metadata (ability to sort/filter docs based on course topics and learning objectives)

-search (ability to search the library based on document titles AND CONTENTS)

-preview/open (ability to preview and open the files in the browser without downloading. This is particularly important because not everyone has a copy of Office to open .doc and .ppt files)
Note- the plugin claims to have this ability using embedded Google Docs viewer, but I can’t get it to work.

    Thank you

    Lester

    Hello Lester,

The simple answer is yes Memphis Documents can do all those things.

The search functionality is based on the WordPress search functionality, and can be as minimal or robust based on the way you setup your WordPress up.

Preview should work, if not please report the errors you are having and I can look into the issue.

Meta data is also a built in WordPress functionality, adding categories and tags to your Memphis Docs posts will allow for sorting/filtering of documents. The only sort functionality currently available using Memphis Docs is number of downloads, ratings, file name, last updated, and owner.

    Cheers
    Ian

The Sub Categories of the Files are not showing under Admin Panel Categories tab (but displaying in Front-End) and showing this message – ‘No files found in this category.’. Can you please check into this and provide a resolution?
