    Hi Joe,

Apologies if this overlaps with my other post — I thought it would be better to start a new thread rather than hijack that one.

I’m also looking to create a list of upcoming local races. I’ve managed to get something working using one of your list templates — see the link below: –

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LDIvYX0EquNzvJChP_fWzQ7cIjYYMLEo/view?usp=sharing

As you’ll see, I’ve made a few adjustments using custom CSS. However, as this is based on one of your templates, I’m not entirely sure how to properly customise or override it further.

On our previous site, this was displayed as a much simpler list, for example:

    March 2026
Sunday 8th March – Colchester Half Marathon – enter here
    Sunday 15th March – Essex 20 – Carver Barracks – enter here
Sunday 22nd March – Essex & Suffolk Road Relay Championships – Colchester Gateway Sports Park – each runner to do 3 miles (please confirm attendance and timings via Spond by 12th March)
Sunday 22nd March – Brentwood Half Marathon – enter here

Ideally, I’d like to make something that’s a little more stylish than a list we have now and like template ive already tried, but with a bit more flexibility for example: –

    • Adding a short description under each event which would display if there is one. (See bold above as an example.)
    • Potentially removing the image option (or at least not displaying it)

I’ve been through the documentation, but I’m still a little unclear on how to create and apply my own template. Some guidance or pointers in the right direction would be really helpful, and I’m confident I can take it from there.

One thing that might be relevant is that we’re running a multisite setup, so I’m not sure if that affects where template files should be placed.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks again for a great plugin.

Template files would still need to be placed in the theme directory, so nothing should change about that.

However, if you’re using one of the upcoming events list preset templates, there are other ways to change those, as well. You could filter the output using mc_preset_template, and replace the HTML used in the template; or you could take the preset template and re-construct it in a PHP template. It depends on what you would prefer to do.
