looks like allowing user roles to see the stats chart in the admin bar only supports the WordPress primary role.

I’m allocating multiple roles to users on my site.

If the roles configured (via the setting page wp-admin/admin.php?page=jetpack&configure=stats) to place the jetpack status image in the admin bar are not the users primary role then the user doesn’t get to see the stats.

is this intended for speed or can jetpack cater for any other (non-primary) role to?

Hi Justin! Thanks for getting in touch.

I’m allocating multiple roles to users on my site.

Could you let me know exactly how you’re doing this? Then I can try to reproduce the issue.

Just let me know about the above, and we can go from there!

Thanks for the response…ok so I’m using https://wordpress.org/plugins/user-role-editor/ to manage multiple assignment of roles, although it doesn’t need to be active all the time as a site plugin just for allocation of more roles to a user. I generally turn it off to save processor time.

What the plugin will show though on its settings page (under the user listing page users.php hover on a user name select “Capabilities”) is the “primary role” for any user.

When jetpack has one or more roles selected to display the status in the admin bar, if any of these roles are allocated to a user but not their “primary role” then the stats don’t show.

If its working for you can you confirm that the role is the primary for the user in question and what happens if you change the users primary to a “non-primary” role.

(I’m using John’s ‘user-switching’ plugin to test different use cases.)

Thanks for the additional information. It sounds like this might be a conflict between the two plugins. Jetpack will respect WordPress’ native user roles, but if those roles are modified, then that could cause the trouble.

With that said, I’d be happy to take a look at your site. Could you please create a temporary account for me? You can send me the login credentials here: http://jetpack.me/contact-support/ Then I can login to troubleshoot things a bit further, and you can delete the account when I am finished.

Let me know how this sounds to you!

    sure I’ll send details through.

    Ryan,

I’ve sent through details to log into the site.
and now created a separate test site on the network for you to see the issue.

    originalnetworkdomain/testjetpackstats/
your login details are the same for this site.

The Subscriber role doesn’t have the ‘Report visibility’ option selected, so for user with only one role of “Subscriber” they shouldn’t see the status chart on the front of the site.

Toolbar is enabled when viewing the site for both of our user profiles.

    my “primary role” is Administrator
    your “primary role” is Subscriber

however we both have all the roles assigned for this test site.
this shows the error since you don’t have the stats within the front of site admin bar.

If you’ve sent us an email with more details about your site, you should have received a reply from us already. If you haven’t, could you try to send us a new email?

    Thanks!

    Thanks Jeremy,

    I’ve resubmitted over at https://jetpack.me/contact-support/

one thing you might consider with the that support page is redirecting to https its not enforcing SSL for any private details submitted passwords etc..

Hi Justin! I sent a reply to your email on May 4th. I just forwarded my reply once again, in case it got lost in transit. Please let me know if you receive the message!

    Hi Ryan,
No I can’t find anything from the 4th May and nothing came in today..??
did you send it to my email address that I have registered with my wordpress.org account ?

    Plugin Contributor Ryan C.

    (@ryancowles)

Hi Justin, I’m afraid that I can’t see the email address that you have registered with your WordPress.org account. I sent it to the address that you included when you filled out our contact form:
    http://jetpack.me/contact-support/

Do you recall which one you used?

    (@justinticktock)

I sent a few tickets at the time and got a few auto emails from Jetpack with the subject : “[Jetpack] Rate your support experience”
to myself at justinandco dot com.

but nothing other than this? shall I raise another support ticket with a different email?

    Plugin Contributor Ryan C.

    (@ryancowles)

Thanks for clarifying. I admit, that’s odd. Can you try sending us a message from a different address?
