    Hello,

I’m using WordPress with WooCommerce, and I’m currently seeing the following message when trying to manage payment methods for shipping labels:

“Only the site owner can manage payment methods for shipping labels. Please contact juanma Gonzalez (juanma) to manage payment methods.”

The issue is that I am that user (juanma), but I want another site administrator to take over this role and be able to manage the payment methods related to shipping.

Is there an official procedure to do this?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi @jmgabad67,

I understand you’re trying to let another admin manage shipping label payment methods, but you’re seeing a message saying only your account can do that — even though you’re logged in as that user. I can see how confusing that would be, and I’ll help you figure it out.

To better understand what’s going on, could you please:

    1. Let us know exactly where you’re seeing this message — is it in WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping or somewhere else?
    2. Share a screenshot of the full page where this message appears, including the browser’s address bar, using https://snipboard.io
    3. Confirm where your site is hosted (e.g., WordPress.com, SiteGround, Bluehost, etc.)
    4. Share your System Status Report by going to WooCommerce > Status > Get system report, and paste the full content into https://pastebin.com or https://gist.github.com — then share the link here.

If you’re using a plugin like WooCommerce Shipping, this type of message usually means that the settings are linked to the specific WooCommerce.com account used to activate the service. We’ll look into this more once we have the extra details above. Let’s get this sorted together!

    Thank you @lovingbro

This is a WordPress installation hosted on Ionos.
I am the user “Juanma”, and I want to give access to another administrator (my client), who already has an admin account in WordPress.

The plugins I have installed are:

    • WooCommerce
    • WooCommerce Stripe Gateway
    • WooCommerce Tax

I’m attaching code and currently waiting for them to send me a screenshot as you requested, since I can’t see it myself — as I mentioned, I’m logged in as the user “Juanma”.

    Hi @jmgabad67,

Thanks for sharing your System Status Report and the extra details. That helps clarify things.

Based on the report and what you’ve described, you’re currently using the WooCommerce Tax plugin, which relies on a connected WordPress.com account to access WooCommerce Shipping and related features. The message your client is seeing, “Only the site owner can manage payment methods for shipping labels”, appears because your own WordPress.com account is the one currently connected to the WooCommerce Shipping service.

To allow your client to manage the payment methods for shipping labels, you’ll need to disconnect your WordPress.com account and reconnect the site using their WordPress.com account instead. This will make them the new “site owner” for WooCommerce Shipping features and allow them to manage shipping label payments directly.

    Let’s see how it goes!

    Tank you @lovingbro,
I’ve tried to transfer ownership to my client’s email account. They are set as an administrator on the site and also have a WordPress.com account, but when I click the ‘Transfer Ownership’ button, nothing happens.
I’m getting a bit desperate — I can’t seem to solve a problem that doesn’t appear to be that complicated, but it’s really holding up our work.
    Thank you very much.

    Hi there,

Thanks for the update, and I completely understand how frustrating this must be — especially when something that seems simple ends up blocking your workflow.

To help us better understand what might be going wrong, could you please:

    1. Share a screenshot of the “Transfer Ownership” button you’re clicking on?
    2. Let us know if you’re seeing any error message when you click the button, or if nothing at all happens?
    3. Confirm that you’re currently logged in with the WordPress.com account that originally connected the site (the current “site owner”) when attempting the ownership transfer?

These details will help us pinpoint whether this is a permission issue, or something else.

Thanks for your quick reply @shahzeenfarooq.
I’m attaching a screenshot showing the button I mentioned.
When I click the button, absolutely nothing happens. I’ve tried using different browsers and disabling any potential blockers, but it still doesn’t work.
Both my account and my client’s are correct — in fact, the portal appears in my account, and I was the one who activated my client’s email on WordPress.com and confirmed the email address.

    Hi @jmgabad67,

Thanks for getting back. Just to clarify, is the screenshot you shared taken from the site itself or from the WordPress.com dashboard?

To simplify things, rather than transferring ownership, you could try this approach instead: first, while logged into your own account, disconnect the site from WordPress.com. Then, log out and sign into the site using your client’s Administrator account. From there, connect the site to their own WordPress.com account directly.

    Thank you @mosesmedh
    It’s a screenshot from WordPress.com

I’ve tried logging myself out of the portal first, but I either haven’t been able to do it or I’m not sure how.

    Hi @jmgabad67,

Thanks for the clarification. Since you’d prefer to go ahead with transferring ownership, the best step would be to contact WordPress.com support directly regarding the issue you’re experiencing with the transfer, as it’s outside the scope of what we can assist with here.

Once that’s sorted, feel free to reach back out if you run into any other issues on your end.

    @jmgabad67 You’re welcome.
