Support » Plugin: Ultimate WP Query Search Filter » Conditional Hierarchical Custom Taxonomy

  • Hi,

I have a hierarchical custom taxonomy with parent and child values. What I want is in a first dropdown it will list all the parent items and depending on the selected value the second dropdown will populate the child values.

For example, for custom taxonomy Location, I have this list:

    — New York
    — Washington
    — Surrey
    — London
    — Sydney
    — Melbourne

In the first dropdown it will only show USA, UK and Australia and if someone selects USA then the second dropdown will show New York and Washington.

Is it possible with this? Or do you suggest me a solution?

Hope to hear from you ASAP.

    Thank you.

What you meant if called dependency or cascading options. It is possible to do so, but it is rather complicated.
If you know coding I can guide through the steps. You have to know Js, Ajax and php.

I have same problem like your problem.
& also i need the collapse & Expandable menu with checkbox(when checked sub menu is expand & when unchecked submenu is collapsed.)

You find any solution of that then please reply me.

Hi there, had this same doubt some time ago… never got to do it properly, ended up doing some hacks with js and html inside the page… hope we could have a tutorial or something. Doesn’t matter how hard it might be… thanks so much!

    Any update?

No, I didn’t get any solution. Yeah, a tutorial with the steps might be helpful. Or the plugin really needs a update with this option in it. Any thoughts?

Just looking at this now as I search for an answer to the same problem. I’ve been doing “cascading combo boxes” as they’re called in MS ACCESS for years so am very surprised there doesn’t seem to be a plug-in that can handle “cascading taxonomy select dropdowns” for the front end in wordpress. To make matters worse I’m running into many inconsistencies in the wordpress community as to what to call them…Please do let me know if anyone finds or develops a solution…thanks!
