Support » Theme: Alexandria » Complex and surprisingly rigid theme

  • All of the Theme Alley themes are attractive to look at and offer many features. For something as feature rich as this, it is surprisingly rigid and inflexible. You have to accept specifically what they offer. Trying to craft something exactly to your liking can prove to be impossible.

The company offers paid additions that may solve some problems, but there is no way to get a 30 day or even 10 day trial to see if these help. Other theme developers let you try and get you money back if you aren’t satisfied. Support for the free version is non-existent so don’t think you can get any help unless you are willing to buy a paid version that may or may not address your issues.

When the theme was first released, I spent 15-20 minutes customizing the theme for each person who asked for support and few days later, they switched to different theme and another theme some days later. So basically its a waste of my time.

So instead of offering free support, I decided to create more themes using that time. This way these new themes will be used by thousands of others. I just think its a better use of my time. You are free to disagree.

If you aren’t going to support a free theme, you shouldn’t offer one. It’s fine for you to offer paid themes, but asking people to pay for something they have not seen or used is a bit much. Many developers offer refunds for a short period if the user is not satisfied. If your themes are so good, you shouldn’t have problems with people asking for refunds. They should buy more if they like what they get.

There is no requirement to offer free support, and in most cases its not possible either. You are free to use some other theme which fits your needs, you have thousand’s of options.

If you don’t like whats offered by my theme shop, you are free to find a theme shop that offers what you want.

Excellent advise. I took it. Downloaded a free theme and paid for several plug-ins which I could try at no risk. I liked the plug-ins and did not ask for a refund.

Have confidence in your product. Offer a trial period. I’ll bet you sell more.
