    I don’t know as I don’t have a WP Engine account.

Generating a certificate should work on almost any host (as long as filesystem permissions are setup correctly), however the more crucial part is including the certificate in your server configuration. This is only possible if you have full access to the configuration – which I doubt WP Engine would be granting, but who knows.

WPEngine has started rolling out support through their own proprietary panel to support automated installation and renewal of Let’s Encrypt SSL certs. The functionality showed up for me last week.

The plugin is aimed at handling Let’s Encrypt and SSL on its own, so it’s not integrating with any other 3rd party services. There are quite a few hosting providers, so it would be close to impossible to accomodate everyone – in addition several of those systems are “locked” so they don’t even allow integration.

Have you tested the plugin on WP Engine? As described in the readme, it requires access to server configuration, and I doubt that WP Engine grants you this (just an assumption, I might be wrong). If the plugin works on your hosting, that’s great, otherwise I would encourage you to use their service – although I’m grateful for your interest in this plugin. 🙂

You’re right, Felix. WP Engine does not allow server configuration access. That means this plugin will not work on a WP Engine account.

All hope is not lost, OP. As @4briang said, WPE is rolling out Let’s Encrypt access to all customers. You may have the ability to use it already.

To find out if you do, log into the WPE user portal, select your install, and then click the “SSL” link. From there, click the blue button labeled “Add SSL Certificates” and see if Let’s Encrypt is an option.

    Hope this helps!
