 * Customer got this from Google. Wondering if your plugin is compatible with what
   Google is telling him.
 * Hello,
   We noticed that some or all of your website pages deploy Google tag [**AW-xxxxx**](https://wordpress.org/Users/chris/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles/9r8jpp18.default-release/Mail/mail.envisiondesignsolutions.com/Inbox?number=38217#m_-1641777475524458734_)
   via a Google Tag Manager snippet (gtm.js). This configuration will soon no longer
   be supported.
 * **What’s changing?**
   To ensure consistency across all websites using the Google
   tag, we are standardizing our tagging snippet behavior. Starting on **October
   02, 2026**, all gtm.js snippets will initialize on container load, regardless
   of any gtag(‘config’) commands.To continue using the gtag configuration code,
   you must ensure all pages on your site use the gtag/js code snippet.

 * Hi [@envisiondesign](https://wordpress.org/support/users/envisiondesign/),
 * Thank you for asking before changing anything. GTM4WP is not affected by this
   and nothing about the plugin needs to change because of it.
 * The notice is one piece of a larger change, where Google tags and Tag Manager
   containers are being merged into one thing. A container will send data to Google
   destinations directly, instead of loading a separate gtag.js file for them the
   way it does today. The part your customer was written to about is that a gtm.
   js snippet will initialize when the container loads and will no longer wait for
   a `gtag('config')` command sitting on the page. For anyone who needs the old
   waiting behavior, Google’s own recommendation is the gtm init trigger inside
   the container rather than a move to the gtag/js snippet.
 * None of that involves the plugin. GTM4WP only ever writes a container snippet,
   because every place it accepts or outputs a container ID requires the GTM-XXXXXX
   form and rejects anything else, and the only gtag command it writes anywhere
   is a consent default rather than a config command.
 * Simo Ahava has written up the whole announcement and it is worth reading if you
   want the full picture:

 * Two points from it are worth having in front of you now. None of this happens
   to a container on its own, so there is nothing your customer has to do this week,
   and the merge does not mean that Tag Manager begins sending data to Google Ads
   or Analytics by itself.
 * What is still worth checking is which of the two setups the mail actually found,
   and the page source answers it. Open any page and look at the ID in the `googletagmanager.
   com/gtm.js?id=` URL. If it reads GTM- then that is the plugin’s container, a
   Google Ads tag configured inside it is the ordinary way to run Ads through Tag
   Manager, and there is nothing for you to do. If it reads AW- then that snippet
   came from something other than GTM4WP, and that is the one Google is asking about.
 * Please let me know what you find and I am happy to help from there.
