# Compatible with Genesis 2.3.0?

 * Are there any reported issues with Genesis 2.3.0 compatibility?
 * We just updated a site using Genesis Columns Advanced to Genesis 2.3.0 and the
   columns all stacked as a single column. Reverting to Genesis 2.2.7 resolved the
   issue. I don’t know that an incompatibility between Genesis Columns Advanced
   and Genesis 2.3.0 exists, but it is a possible explanation, among others. Has
   anyone else encountered this issue after upgrading?

 * Hi danbashaw,
 * It seems as though the base Genesis 2.3.0 is missing the CSS for columns, I am
   not sure why and I am looking into it. Are you using a child theme? If not, this
   might be why. I seems as though the Genesis folks are moving towards requiring
   that people use a Child theme rather than the base framework. For example the
   newly redesigned [Genesis Sample Theme](http://www.studiopress.com/genesis-sample/)
   includes the column classes.
 * I have reached out to some folk behind the scenes at Studiopress to see what
   the direction will be on including column classes in the base framework. If they
   are going to leave them out, I will include an option in the plugin that adds
   the proper CSS classes if you are running a child theme that does not include
   them.
 * I’ll keep you posted.

 * Hi markgelo,
 * I can confirm that the column classes have been removed from the base Genesis
   Framework in version 2.3.0. I am still looking into why this is the case and
   if StudioPress will no longer be supporting column classes. If this is the case,
   I will build the classes directly into this plugin so everything still will work.
 * Please hold tight, I will have an update for you all later today. I apologize
   for this inconvenience.

 * So it is official, the column classes were purposefully removed from v2.3.0 of
   the base Genesis Framework theme. That being said, nearly all child themes still
   use these classes so the majority of users should have no issue.
 * If you are using the base Genesis Framework as the theme of your site, StudioPress
   now advises that this should never be done and you should always be running a
   child theme as well. You will probably see a notification about this in your
   WordPress admin if you upgraded to v2.3.0 and are just using the base theme.
 * The best course of action in this case it to install the free Genesis Sample
   Theme. It has been completely rebuilt for v2.3.0 and contains the column classes
   you need for this plugin. You can download it from GitHub here ([https://github.com/copyblogger/genesis-sample](https://github.com/copyblogger/genesis-sample)).
   Click the green button on the right.
 * As an aside, I am hard at work on version 2.0 for this plugin. In light of the
   column classes being removed from Genesis v2.3.0, I adding an option in version
   2 that allows the plugin itself to serve the required CSS. This will allow the
   plugin to stand alone from Genesis.
 * Again, I apologize for the inconvenience. If you are running the base parent
   theme, I highly recommend you upgrade to the free Genesis Sample Theme. Also
   stay on the lookout for version 2.0 of this plugin coming next week.
 * Thanks,
    Nick

 * Thanks Nick!
 * In our case, we are using a custom child theme that references the Genesis theme
   directly, rather than using a StudioPress ‘official’ child theme. It surprises
   me a bit that StudioPress would choose to abstract something this fundamental
   from the framework itself.
 * Thanks again for looking into this so rapidly, and for your great plugin! I appreciate
   you adding the needed CSS to the plugin itself, for use cases like ours.
 * Cheers – Dan

 * What infuriates me is that from what i remember the older framework had about
   1700 lines of CSS code. Now the new framework only reduced that to 1500 and on
   top of that, i need their child theme, which includes 1,900 lines of extra CSS
   code? How is this an improvement? I’m with [@danbashaw](https://wordpress.org/support/users/danbashaw/),
   i don’t use an “official” child theme

 * Hi jbbaab44,
 * I feel your pain and I don’t have an answer for you 🙁 I am busy making this
   plugin stand-alone so it will not rely on any existing Genesis column classes
   unless you want it to. Taking a bit longer than expected because I am adding
   a few new things that Genesis never supported, like fifths, but it will be released
   this weekend.

 * Sorry this has taken so long. Version 2.0.0 is now available. Give it a try and
   let me know what you think.

 * Thanks Nick – The fix is working perfectly, and I really like the well thought
   out interface improvements you have made in 2.0 as well. Much appreciated!
