Comments spontaneously stop working

    Hi all,

    I’ve had this happen twice now. I had Jetpack Comments active and it worked great. Then, at some point when I wasn’t paying attention, it spontaneously stopped working. You could write up your comment and submit it, but then the comment text box disappeared and the comment was lost. Users are effectively blocked from commenting.

    The first time this happened I was pulling my hair out, so I deactivated all my other plugins – no luck. Then I deactivated and reactivated Jetpack Comments, and it suddenly started working again.

    I hoped that would be the end of it, but about a month later the same thing happened again. As far as I know I didn’t update or install anything during that time. The second time around I just deactivated Jetpack Comments. I can’t have the comments section failing on its own without warning.

    I’ve searched around for similar problems, but I couldn’t find anyone who’s found a solution. It’s kind of hard to tell if other people’s problems are the same as this or just similar.

    If you guys have seen this issue before or have any advice, it would be really appreciated. I love Jetpack’s Comments module and I’d much rather use it than keep it deactivated.

    I’m afraid I don’t have a link to a site where it’s happening. I deactivated Jetpack Comments as soon as I realized it had broken my comment form. I could reactivate it now and wait a month for the problem to recur, but then no-one would be able to submit comments to my site.

    I’m sorry to hear that this happened, but of course, without being able to see it, I won’t be able to troubleshoot it. If you ever decide to activate Jetpack comments again and it happens again, please do let me know.
