Comments Sending While In Moderation

    So I am experiencing somewhat of a weird issue. I have all comments go to moderation. I have set up notifications to be sent only to the author on a custom post type when a new comment is posted, this works, but it sends it as soon as it is written, while it is still in moderation. Is this normal behavior and is there anyway to make it only send the new comment notification after the comment is approved?

    To try to remedy the situation I have tried setting up a notification for the wordpress default new comment/awaiting moderation and unticked both checkboxes under “Discussion”, but nothing is sent out. I tested checking “Email me whenever someone writes a comment” and this DOES send a email out to the author once the comment is approved, but nothing is sent from BNFW, is this normal behavior?

    These are just two issues I ran into trying to solve one probelem, I hope there is a remedy to one. Thanks again and let me know if you need any more information.

    Thanks for your message.

    There’s been talk for a while about WordPress.org splitting the default comment emails into several emails. Currently, there’s no way to do this in BNFW as there’s no way to split the emails up. I am always investigating this and I know that the comment area of BNFW is something that could probably be improved.

    I’m not positive that you understood the issue correctly. BNFW is NOT sending any emails out for the when I create a new comment/awaiting moderation notification and send it only to the author.

    To verify that the system knows who the author is I tried turning on the default wordpress comment notification and i do receive the default comment email, but I never the receive the BNFW one, which is the issue I am trying to resolve. To summarize, BNFW is not sending out the comment/awaiting moderation email. I have tried all of the steps in the FAQ, but nothing has resolved it.

    Ok, thanks.

    Do you have any other plugins installed that might be altering the comment notifications such as BuddyPress? Is this for posts or a custom post type?

    Custom Post Type. As mentioned above, I create another notification for a new comment on the Custom Post type, but it sends out an notification before the comment is approved, which is not good, that is why I am trying to use the ” comment/awaiting moderation ” notification.

    I only have “Comment Approved” Installed, which notifies the commenter when their comment is approved, i tried disabling that and testing, but no change.

    Ah, thats because the New Comment / Awaiting Moderation notification hasn’t been extended to pages or custom post types in BNFW yet but is scheduled to be included in the next version.

    Additionally, there is no notification for when a comment is approved in WordPress or BNFW – only the New Comment / Awaiting Moderation, which does as it suggests – it’s two notifications in one and is sent when either there is a new comment that has already been approved or there is a new comment that is awaiting moderation.

    Hope this helps clarify things a bit.

    So I guess I am out of luck until the next version. Do you have an ETA on when that new version will arrive?

    Also, by any chance, If i wanted to edit the default email notification that goes out (which seems to be working) and add my own html, do you know how i would do that? That seems to be the only workaround until the next version of your plugin is released.

    Hi it1294,
    It’s scheduled for development in July so hopefully towards the end of July.

    You can create a new notification in BNFW for ‘New Comment / Awaiting Moderation’ and then edit it using the WYSIWYG or the Text editor. Shortcodes are available to add additional content. Documentation is available on the BNFW website.

    Thanks, but as I mentioned the New Comment / Awaiting Moderation notification email never gets sent out, only the default wordpress one does for the custom post type. This was my issue!

    I guess I will keep looking for a workaround until the new version is released.

    Oh, I see. I thought you were referring to the regular post type in your last reply.
