Comments (pages older comments link)

  • I have a blog post with about 107 comments. I have WordPress set to display 50 comments per page. The problem is, on the post page, it only displays 7 comments. How do I make it so it displays the most recent 50 comments on the post page and have 7 comments on the 3rd page?

What comment ordering settings have you used in Admin/General/Discussion?

    I have the followoing enabled:

“Enable threaded (nested) comments 4 levels deep”
“Break comments into pages with [50] comments per page and the [last] page displayed by default. Comments should be displayed with the [newer] comments at the top of each page”

Are any of the first 7 part of a single thread with children?

Yes, I believe one of the first 7 comments is threaded.

Could those child comments be contributing to the overall count of 50? FWIW I’ve found that it’s really easy to get confused when looking at multi-page threaded comments. I once spent the best part of an hour trying to deal with what I thought was a bug in the comment ordering – only to realise this the problem was me. I wasn’t looking at the comment dates/times properly and hadn’t taken child comments into account.
