 * Is it possible to have my users be able to comment on posts within the dashboard?
We are trying to use this as a communication tool in our office but so far I
am unable to find a way to allow them to comment on posts on the dashboard. I
see how to allow members to comment on blog posts. thank you

 * Have you tried giving them their own user account with appropriate role ?
 * For what it worth you could try theme P2. It is intended to be a communication
tool on the front end , just like you described for the dashboard. [https://wordpress.org/themes/p2/](https://wordpress.org/themes/p2/)

 * They each have an account and I have their roles set up so they can comment on
posts. I don’t know what I’m missing. I am not using it as a blog but do want
to open communication between our employees in the dashboard. I clicked the themes
link you posted and downloaded it. I don’t see much of a difference.

 * When trying to upload the file for the new plug in you showed me it is telling
me no valid plug in is found. So apparently it isn’t working and that’s why I
don’t see a difference. I’m not sure that plug in would help since it seems to
be more blog focused. I really appreciate your help and any suggestions!

 * Have you check the configuration under Dashboard > Settings > Discussion ?
 * What happens when a user attempts to view Dashboard > Comments ?
 * When a user attempts to edit a post, is there anything about comments down at
the bottom ? Have they checked under screen options on that page to enable _discussion_
   and _comments_ ?
 * P2 is a theme not a plugin.

 * Yes those settings under discussion are checked for being able to comment. When
a user views a comment they can look at it but there is no box for them to comment.
As for when a user views a post: The only way for them to comment is if they
push “edit” and they can only “edit” their own posts. If I allow them to edit
anyone’s post then it will allow them to change anything about it. Is there any
way for me to allow them to comment without getting to edit?

 * I think from the dashboard, creating comment is inherently a part of editing
the post. You maybe could create a new custom capability and add it to their
role. That would require php and would be really easy to screw up a lot of other
   stuff.
 * Here’s another idea: create a blog page to display all posts, publish no link
to that page, password protect it, give the link and password only to your approved
commentors, configure properly the settings>discussion, maybe they don’t even
have to be logged in, and then they do commenting and discussion on the front
end? Then maybe find the P2 functionality in a plugin to make it really slick…

 * Okay there is some sort of bug in the p2 theme and when I activated it, it’s
saying there is a sidebar problem. Now our website functionality is messed up.
I tried to go back to a different theme and now they’re all messed up!!

 * You went back to the same theme from before p2?
 * Check settings > reading ?
 * Try deactivate all plugins, to test for conflict?
 * Exactly what all are messed up?
 * If sidebar, you might need to rearrange your widgets into the proper widget areas
   again.
 * Please post your site address?

 * I managed to get the prior theme to work properly again. I’m not familiar with
plugins, widgets, etc. so that makes this a bit more difficult. I think I will
just make everyone be able to edit posts. I have no idea how to debug the P2
theme. And the p2 theme opened up commenting on our contact us tab as well as
our services tab which I didn’t want. Thank you a million!

 * You are welcome
 * This part you can do without P2 and probably without enable editing all posts:

 * Okay I created a page and named it employee communication. I password protected
it. I set the settings in discussion and allowed comments. Why in the world doesn’t
it show a place to make comments when I go to the link?

 * Don’t need to enable the discussion on that page … it’s going to be a place-holder
page for all your posts so the posts will show up there and everyone with access
can comment on the posts (not the page)
 * Check under settings > reading
 * A) Is the Front Page configured as your Home Page?
 * B) Is anything configured for the Posts Page?
 * If A is YES and B is NO, make your new page the Posts Page

 * A is Yes B is No and I had already changed that…there is still not a comment
box on the password protected page. The posts show on the page but they cannot
   comment still.
