 * actually, for some reason comments will turn on for some posts, and off for others.
   it’s inconsistent and I haven’t figured it out yet..

 * In Dashboard > Settings > Discussion, there is an option to automatically close
   comments on articles older than 14 days. Is that option selected, and if so, 
   how many days is it set to?

 * that box is unchecked, so it’s not enabled

 * I dont think I discovered the root of the problem, but I discovered a fix. Within
   the “Quick Edit’ there is a box to allow comments. I think it’s also inaccessible
   within the edit post if you scroll down to discussion. It’s intermittent so I
   dont know what the issue is, but I’ll keep an eye out to adjust that setting 
   as it comes up. Thanks Stephen, Maruti
