• hey guys

    I have a poblem and getting crazy about it, please help:

    I installed wordpress 2.x using my web-hosters website – so I did not actually install it by myself but started the installation via the website of the provider. Anyhow, everything worked great, the blog was up and running (www.lucky13.de). When I updated to 3.0 using the automated installation, the message “updating database..” never disappeard. The blog as well as the admin area were not available for a good time afterwards, while the page only displayed “page down due to sceduled mainteance” or something like this.

    After a while the page came up again, but the comment function is not working anymore. I reviewed all comments setting and they are definitely on. Not even the entry-fields for comments appear.

    I just have been able to get this problem exactly the same way again when I installed a second blog – just to check. With the 2.x version that is installed when I start it over the provider everything works fine. As soon as I update to 3.0 comments are gone.

    Can you help?

    nobody here who can help?

    I am also having problems with the comments after updating from WP 2.9.2 to 3.0.

    The update processed as normal, but now users cannot leave a comment. All of the comments fields appear, but nothing happens when submitting the comment.

    I already tried the following steps (all did not resolve the problem):

    – re-run the upgrade to 3.0 (still problem that “updating database..” does not disappear)
    – Disable Aksinet
    – Change theme
    – Copy comments.php from other theme into my current theme
    – set up everything new from scratch (commments work until updating to 3.0).

    any guesses?
    thanks in advance

    @tpflanz – I just tried and was able to leave a comment no problem (feel free to delete it). Did you get this fixed?
    @dereidgenosse can you post the address of your site? Also have you tried disabling all of your plugins after upgrading and see if comments work then?

    @dholowiski
    Not really, I had to modify my template. In 2.9.2 I inserted a login form just above the comments submission form with the is_user_logged_in function.

    I used the Sidebar Login (Version 2.2.10) plugin and their template tags. I use this same plugin for the login form in my menu bar at the top (located in header.php).

    I have no problems with the login form in the header.

    I imagine some sort of conflict was occuring with the login form placed in comments.php

    @dholowiski:
    http://www.lucky13.de
    this url is diverted to http://www.koepfli.de/blog/shanghaibaby

    deactivate all plugins did not help.

    @dereidgenosse It looks like you moved your blog from http://koepfli.de/blog/shanghaibaby/ to http://www.lucky13.de
    But your new site still has many references to the old site, for example if you click on any of the pages, you get a page cannot be found error because they are pointing to your old server.
    Have a look here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress
    and if none of that works, try here: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/10/01/how-to-move-wordpress-blog-to-new-domain-or-location/

    I think when you fix that problem, your comments will start working and the 3.0 upgrade will work too.

    By the way, you have an interesting blog (I had to use Google Translate to read it)!

    :-)thanks a lot for your help. I think you are right. there are actually some strange things going on with this blog. It seems it has a problem being installed to the koepfli.de/bog/ folder and being accessed over a diverted url. I actually never moved it

    will post a english comment for you as soon as comments work 🙂

    seems I cannot do it from here. not able to sql from here (company notebook and chinese line). seems I have to live without comments unless I do not want to do everything new from scratch.

    there is no chance to do this ober the wordpress editor, right?

    That’s too bad. I don’t know of any way to do this in WordPress, but I’m sure someone smarter than me would be able to write a PHP script that could connect to the database and make the changes. Maybe someone else watching this thread can suggest something?

    If all else fails, you could add Disqus as your comment engine – it should just be a line or two of code you can drop in your template (you have to sign up for a disqus account).
