Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Fourteen theme with all plugins deactivated?

I first tried with only Akismet, Jetpack and WP Language plugins activated; result was that I could not enter any comment aka system confirmed “saved” but comment neither showed up on the blog, nor for approval.
I then deactivated ALL plugins and was then able to enter comments and these showed up below the blog post.
I do not want to assume anything but this seem indicate either of Akismet, Jetpack or WP Language plugins to be culprit :))
I then activated Akismet – tested wo problems, then Jetpack – tested wo problems, then lastly WP Language – surprise surprise tested wo problems. I then activated all plugins – tested wo problems. It appears that problem went away by deactivating and then activating plugins again! Hmmm

Your help would be appreciated to understand why comments made by users (log in required, all users have “authors” status) via the “add comment” feature at the top of blogs shows up as new blogs pending review. Comments are enabled in options -> discussions and no spam list used. Comments made before/on 10 Jan 2014 correctly showed as blog comments. Something changed in 3.8.1 ? Thanks in advance.
