Support » Fixing WordPress » Comments disappearing after server move

  • robotjohnny

I just recently moved a WordPress install to a new server. I successfully copied everything over, and imported the MySQL databse from the old server, and everything seems to be in working order except for one thing:

New comments from anyone other than my logged-in self do not appear, and the commenter gets no error messages. I searched the database, and the comments ARE there, but labelled as spam.

Sure enough, they were in my Akismet spam queue. But I haven’t changed any settings for Akismet or for commenting. I tried disabling Akismet, but all comments still get zapped as spam (and reappear in Akismet’s net once it’s been reactivated).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Your can “teach” Akismet by flagging those comments with “No Spam”.
Although I don’t understand how they get flagged as “spam” when Akismet is disabled…

I realize that, but that doesn’t seem to be the problem. Moving servers shouldn’t make Akismet stupid all of a sudden. Is there a permissions problem or something somewhere that would make the comment system automatically zap a comment like that?
