Hi all, very inexperienced with WordPress, usually I setup a site then leave it for months at a time, not really blogging.

Anyway I’ve suddenly started getting spam on a particular page.

Now I could be wrong about this, but if comments are closed, then I shouldn’t be receiving system prompts to moderate, right? Which is what I’ve been getting.

I guess maybe I’m not understanding things, as I’m actually getting trackbacks, not the same restrictions as comments closed?

A little guidance would be appreciated. Thanks

    David

Not necessarily. Most spam bots target the comment scripts directly. Try activating Akismet and installing http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/cookies-for-comments/

Thanks for the quick response. I’ll try the Cookies for Comments.

Does this work for the trackbacks as well? Or am I still missunderstanding.

I think of the comments as items added by live readers of the page. Were as trackbacks are external page references from another blog site.

Cookies for Comments won’t work for trackbacks, no.

I’ve signed up for Akismet. I’ll see how that goes, they do imply that it works with trackbacks.

    Thanks
