“Comments are closed.” in WordPress – Any ideas why?

    For some random reason, I no longer have comments on my wordpress posts. Where the comment form used to be, is now replaced with “Comments are closed.”

    I downloaded no new plugins.
    I did not upgrade anything recently
    I did not edit any of the code in wordpress
    I went into phpmyadmin and comments are still “open” for wp-posts

    This morning, my comments were working. Later on the same day (I did not even touch my wordpress), I get “Comments are closed.”

    I don’t know what happened

    In my “Discussion settings,” the following are checked
    1) Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article (slows down posting.)
    2) Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks.)
    3) Allow people to post comments on the article
    4) Anyone posts a comment

    Any ideas on how i can get back my comment form would be gratefully appreciated. Thank you 🙂

    In discussion settings there is a setting to automatically close comments after a defined number of days…may want to check that.

    This is interesting.

    All of the posts from yesterday and older have “Comments are closed.”

    However…I just started a new post right now and the comment form is there. It works.

    Why are all the comments starting yesterday and older have been closed, but not the ones from today? (In discussion settings, for “Automatically close comments on articles older than 100 days”…but posts made yesterday have comments disabled)

    Did you find a solution?

    I had kind of a similar problem. I am moving a blog from wordpress.com to the free installation.

    After importing the posts and everything had the same issue going on. Al the old posts showed that comments are closed eventhough in mysql they were open.

    All the new posts I added had comments open as they should.

    What I did was, I went and checked the discussion option. It was unmarked. I marked it, saved the settings. Then I unmarked it again and saved the settings again. For some reason that did the trick 🙂

    Now comments on old imported posts are open again.
