 * I am just condifuring my permalinks (and not having a very good time doing it–
   the print and email links I have had to revert back to normal id) but the thing
   is that when I post an article (or any author) it automatically adds a comment
   to another post.

   is it that I need to change the recent replies link to a permalink? If so, I 
   don’t know how to.

 * Those are pingbacks. If you have the URI of your own post in another post AND
   the pingbacks are turned on, then the posts are pinging each other.
