 * I don’t know exactly when my comments stopped working, I just know that I discovered
the fact that anyone attempting to add a comment (myself included) receives a
404 error stating that the file “wp-comments-post.php” is missing. I’m not very
well-versed in these sorts of things (not a code-savvy person) so I’ll just try
to give you an overview of what I’m experiencing/have tried:
 * I searched the support forums and none of the suggestions I’ve found so far have
worked for me. I tried changing my Permalinks back to default (which isn’t an
ideal solution for me anyway, as I believe it would change the URLs to 100+ of
my existing blogs that I have linked at various places on the web.) I looked
on my server, and the wp-comments-post.php IS in place in my root directory.
 * I have the theme Cave installed. I had to switch from An Ordinary Theme a couple
of months ago because my site was hacked, and my web host suggested I change
   to a different theme.
 * Incidentally, I went to the comments section in my dashboard and tested posting
a reply to a comment through that way. I was able to post the comment there and
have it show up when I viewed that particular blog post outside of my dashboard.
 * Thanks!

 * I do not get a 404. I get `You have entered the wrong CAPTCHA phrase.` but there
is no captcha. There is a comment luv link or whatever.
 * Start with a basic debug.
Try – deactivating all plugins (yes, all) to see if
this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one
until you find the problematic plugin(s). – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme
to rule out any theme-specific problems.

 * I hope that is not all you did after being hacked.

 * Oh, sorry. I had just installed CommentLuv right before I posted this topic on
the forums. I was just curious if it overrides the way comments normally function.

 * If I switch themes, will that lose the customization I’ve done to Cave since
activating it, in case I want to use Cave again without starting from scratch?

 * We changed all the passwords to everything possible involved with my site (FTP,
cpanel, wordpress admin,e tc.) And my host went through and deleted the toxic
code that was put there by the hacker. Also restored from a back-up of my site
that was made before I started having problems.

 * Weirdly, I’m getting spam comments again after I turned off my captcha. However,
I still cannot get comments to post. But spam bots can??

 * It may also be trackback spam. Try turning trackbacks off in dashboard.
 * What spam plugins are you running?
 * Check out plugins, for example:

Akismet – Spam Karma2 can help too. -http://wordpress.org/plugins/cookies-for-

 * Hi Tara-
 * I’ll try to trackback thing.
 * I was just using a captcha plugin, and I hadn’t had to deal with even one spam
comment since activating it. As soon as I deactivated all my plugins, as some
solutions to the comment 404 error suggest, the spam comments started rolling
back in. I had not changed anything when the 404 error for comments began. So
I still don’t know if it happened when I activated a new theme.
 * I don’t mind activating Twenty Eleven to see if my current them (Cave)is the
issue, but I don’t want to leave Twenty Eleven the theme for any length of time–
I really like Cave and would like to continue using it, if possible. Should I
   just disable comments for now?

 * Wanted to add: I did delete wp-comments-post.php from my server and replace it
with the same file from a fresh download of WP 3.5.2. I get the same 404 error.
