Support » Fixing WordPress » comment tags suddenly visible with upgrade

  • The only way I could alphabetize the names on this page was to edit the categories to be things like

    <!--schmoe-->Joe Schmoe

    in my database. Now with my upgrade, however, wordpress is turning the comment tags into viewable character by changing them to

    &lt ; !–schmoe&#8211 ; >Joe Schmoe

    (I had to add spaces to make it work but you get the idea)

    Any ideas where I could change something to make it work again?
    btw, I’m calling this list with
    <?php wp_list_cats('sort_column=name&optioncount=0&child_of=2&use_desc_for_title=1'); ?>

  • Have you tried using the template tag, wp_list_categories(), instead of wp_list_cats–which is deprecated (obsolete).

    Thanks. I just switched it and fixed the args but it’s still doing it. I can see two solutions:
    1) figure out how to get it to go back to using the < !– symbols instead of their HTML equivalents.
    2) Figuring out how to sort by slug or nicename. I’m going through WP files looking for where the orderby arguments are definied but I think it’s more complicated than adding an orderby=nicename option, although that would rule.
