Support » Plugin: MC4WP: Mailchimp for WordPress » Comment form integration not working

    Hi,

The Comment Form integration is not working. Upon leaving a comment and checking the checkbox, it does not do anything… no confirmation email, no sign up. Status is green/connected, Comment Form is “Active” and “Enabled”, and hitting “Renew Mailchimp Lists” results in accurately retrieving the number of subscribers, so it’s interfacing with Mailchimp. I even tried uninstalling and re-installing the plugin with no luck… of course it saved all settings, so the re-install was transparent. Baffling! Do I need to uninstall and erase settings (how to do that?) and then re-install? Or any other suggestions? You’re welcome to try on your end. Thanks.

    Hey Mike,

Thanks for reaching out to us.

Can you please go to the “MC4WP > Others” menu in your WordPress admin and share with us the errors listed there?

    Hi Harish,

Below is one of the errors. There were about 5 total that all appear to be the same. Through various testing processes I have “permanently deleted” my own addresses and then re-signed up multiple times. Not sure why that would be a problem?? Just this morning I tried with a new email address I haven’t used before and it still didn’t work. It also didn’t give error message…messages seem to be delayed for some reason…my sign up attempt was several hours ago. It initially when to spam folder which I subsequently removed from span and approved the comment. Still no luck.

That error means that that email is blocked for subscription via the API/any plugin as it was subscribed and then unsubscribed earlier. This block is enforced by MailChimp and out of our control.

Can you test with a new/fresh email?

Hope that helps. If you have any questions, please let me know!

It finally worked!! However, please continue reading. I tried this morning with never before used address on normally used Chrome browser, and it did NOT work. In order to get it to work, had to go to never used Edge browser and sign up with same address, and it worked. So apparently there are multiple reasons it may not work:

    1) If you previously “permanently delete” an address from Mailchimp. However, I have proven this for sure is not a Mailchimp issue because I have permanently deleted multiple addresses and re-signed up multiple times using Genesis eNews Extended widget (my main sign-up form) with no problems.

    2) If you try signing up with different addresses on same browser (incognito) it must not like that perhaps due to cookie confusion…? It also did this with another plugin (Subscription to Comments Reloaded) whereby upon clicking “manage subscriptions” it pulled up ALL email addresses I used. Email addresses should obviously be independent of each other. That kinda scared me…as I had thoughts of random subscriber seeing other peoples’ comment subscriptions. Hoping it’s just a cookie issue…?

    3) It may also not work if a comment initially goes to spam and later gets approved. Haven’t proven that 100%. I’m running out of email addresses!

Needless to say, both plugins have robustness issues. Thanks for taking the time to review this email. Hope all my “testing” is helpful.

If you have a Gmail address to test with, you can add a . (or multiple of them) anywhere in the name part of the gmail address to create a “new” email.

E.g. my.name@gmail.com and m.y.name@gmail.com and myna.me@gmail.com will all end up in myname@gmail.com but for MailChimp they are all new emails.

When you tried in chrome and it didn’t work, was there any error in the log (MailChimp for WP > Other?) ?

Maybe you can set MC4WP to “log everything” to get better insight.

There should not be any such cookie issue as you describe, as far as I know. If there is it must have to do with the comment system in wordpress or your theme and not with MC4WP.

Hope that helps. If you have any questions, please let me know!

    Lap,

No, there were no other errors. I changed to “log everything” and saved.

The “permanently delete” bug is troublesome.

Yeah, it was as if Subscribe to Comments Reloaded plugin knew all my different addresses were me (via same IP address??) and it shouldn’t know that!

Thanks for the tip with gmail addresses! I don’t have gmail, but perhaps I should make one.
