[resolved] Comment feeds still exist and work (6 posts)

    Hi, I've just installed and enabled this plugin, and it's working fine in terms of removing the comments and disabling comment functionality on my posts/pages.

    However, I still have the comment RSS links appearing in the <head> of my pages.

    For example if I go to an individual post on my blog page, and view the source code, I can see these RSS links in the <head>:

    * Main feed: http://www.example.com/feed
    * Comments feed: http://www.example.com/comments/feed
    * Current post comments feed: http://www.example.com/category/2013/06/test-post/feed

    The latter two should not be there, should they? They are both comment feeds, and surely they should be disabled by the plugin and removed from the <head> section? Otherwise they will still be visible in any web browser which displays links to RSS feeds, such as Firefox.

    Additionally: if I go to the current post comments feed (the last one in my list above), it redirects back to the post itself, which is great.

    But if I go to the overall comments feed (the second one in my list above), that feed actually works, and displays the comments which already existed before I installed your plugin. Shouldn't this feed be disabled too, and redirect somewhere else? (Maybe to the home page I guess). It would be great if the plugin could do this, as a way of totally removing all references to comments on the site.

    Thanks! :)

    Thanks for your feedback and yes, it would make sense to remove all of these references when comments are completely disabled. I am currently working on an update which includes some other fixes, and will add in these changes.

    The feed links issue should be addressed in version 0.9.1 of the plugin which I have just released.

    With regard to the main comment feed being redirected - that should have been happening already. I have changed the logic slightly so it might start working for you now.

    Wow, that was quick! :)

    However, now all of the feeds are gone. I'd prefer it if I could keep the main feed (http://www.example.com/feed) because I still want to use that to access the blog posts. I only want the comment feeds disabled. Is that possible? (If it's not possible - if it's an "all or nothing" situation - then I wonder if you might want to make it optional, as some users might prefer to keep their feed links).

    The redirection seems to work now - if I paste in a feed URL directly into my address bar, it just goes back to the page I was already on.

    Now I remember why I hadn't removed the feeds links in the first place! Unfortunately it is all or nothing - I can't remove the comment feeds selectively - so I have reverted that change in version 0.9.2.

    You can use this plugin to remove those feed links along with a whole bunch of other stuff. It will still be all or nothing however. If you want to be more selective you will need to insert your own links manually via your theme's funtions.php file.

    Okay - I figured as much - thanks anyway for your fast and helpful reply! :)
