# Column Width Won’t Change

 * Each time I add Custom CSS the columns seem to reduce in width. I’ve been trying
   to get them to widen again BUT after 40 mins, they refuse the change from the
   narrow widths. I’ve tried multiple things, mainly using code like
 * .tablepress .column-1 {
    width: 200px; }
 * Site is [http://leadingugly.com](http://leadingugly.com) and I only have one 
   table so have dropped the identifier to simplify things.

 * thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.
 * The problem here are the long URLs in the third column. As those are treated 
   as one very long word by the browser (because the usually don’t contain spaces
   or hyphens where the browser could do word-wrapping), the browser has to make
   the third column wider, so that the URL fits. This means that other columns have
   to be made more narrow, even if you have set a column widths via CSS. (This can
   be nicely seen in the “Pat Cunningham” row.)
 * Your best chance here would therefore be to maybe turn those URLs in the third
   column into actual clickable links which have a short link text. For this, you
   could either type/copy in HTML code like
    `<a href="https://example.com/">Link
   </a>` manually or use the “Insert Link” button which will create this HTML for
   you.

 * Oh Tobias, I was also trying to change the colour of the Description showing 
   at the bottom of the table, but I can’t get it to work:

 * please try adding the `!important` flag to raise the command’s priority, like
 *     ```
       color: #ffffff !important;
       ```
