  • Awesome plugin. Love that it doesn’t have the bloat of the other plugins around!

One small request… This is essentially an accessibility request; would you please consider making the red/amber/yellow indicators on the post editor bigger. I have mild colour-blindness and because the only indicator is the colour of the character count, I can’t tell the difference between the amber and green very easily!

Some kind of indicator other than colour alone would be really helpful (or personally, just a bigger amount of could would be enough, but other with greater deficiencies will still struggle).

    great work

    Hi Nick,

Great to hear you like it!

In version 2.5.0 I’ve created a color scheme which should’ve been distinctive on any human color deficiency. However, I used an color deficiency emulator tool to create it, so I could be off on this part.

You can view and adjust the colors I’ve used using this tool by Adobe.

I wish to ask you a few things:

    1. What’s the name of the color deficiency you experience?
    2. Can you distinguish the SEO Bar’s colors?

I assume you experience Protanopia; unfortunately, this type of color deficiency was my culprit, as any minor change would make the colors ugly, too bright or incompatible with other deficiencies.

I’ll see what I can do to not distort the general user experience while adjusting it.
I think this will be an indicator of “Good, Okay, Bad” next to the characters counter which can be accessed by simply clicking on the counter. Maintaining that setting will require some AJAX implementation which I have yet to get started on.
    I’ll keep you posted.

Until then, these are the (as of 2.6.0) color dividers:
    Title:
    Good: 42~55
    Okay: 25~41 + 56~74
    Bad: 0~24 + 75+

    Description:
    Good: 137~155
    Okay: 100~136 + 156~174
    Bad: 0~99 + 175+

I hope this helps! I’d like to hear back from you, have a wonderful day!

    Hi Sybre,

Thanks for responding. I’m impressed you even considered the colour vision aspect, top marks!

I believe my deficiency is deuteranomaly, although it is fairly mild.

My struggle isn’t with your colour choice, it’s with the small nature of coloured area. I often struggle to distinguish small amounts of a given hue with another. For example, dark red links set amongst black body text of the same weight.

If the indicator was a larger circle, for example, I’d probably get it. For further clarity, three circles with the indicator the only solid fill would be even better, as there is then a positional change as well as colour.

Yes, the main indicators are large enough to see the difference.

Thanks for considering this. My deficiency is minor (I am a graphic and web designer, and rarely have problems!) but for others, the impact may be wider.

    Thanks again, great work!

Thank you so much for your feedback Nick!

I’ll be sure to see if I can add the indicator words next to the counter “or” a circle around it on click. A hidden a11y (accessibility) feature to chose from.

I’ll keep you posted on its progression. Until then, have a wonderful day :).

    Hi Nick!

I proudly present the following in 2.6.0, it’s already in the dev version (soon to be in Beta):
    Option 0
    Option 1
    Option 2
    Option 3

The pictures suffer from bad compression.

You can switch modes when clicking on the counter which will be saved within the site options directly.
This is currently a site-wide option only — a user-specific one is to come in a future update.

I’d love to hear your feedback!
    Have a wonderful day! 🙂

Hey Sybre, options 1 and 3 are great – much much easier! Three is generally more accessible, but for me, 1 is fine (and prettier!)

Thanks so much for integrating this.

    Nick

Option #1 ~ no doot aboot et! …as we say in Scotland. 🙂

That’s good to hear! It’s settled in the next version (all of the options).
