# Color Reference Chart?

 * Where can I find a visual resource that will show me what color is generated 
   by an abbreviated (3 digit) hex code?
 * I can do 6 digit codes in photoshop, but if I only enter 3 digits in Photoshop,
   it adds digits to make it 6 and then it’s a different color.
 * I’m pulling my hair out trying to modify the menu colors in Twenty Ten via the
   stylesheet.

 * **Don’t edit the Twenty Ten theme!** Your changes **will** be over-written the
   next time you upgrade WordPress or the theme. For this reason, it is recommended
   that you consider creating a [child theme](http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes)
   for your customisations.
 * In the meantime, try googling on hexadecimal color codes.

 * Wow thanks for the info on Child Themes – I’ll do that.
 * As far as googling hex codes – I’ve done that and all I see are representations
   of 6 digit codes. I guess I’ll try modifying my search terms.

 * All identical triplets can be reduced to three code shortened versions. So `#
   ffffff` = `#fff` and `#666666` = `#666`

 * Thank you for both clearing that up. I was typing “fff” into photoshop for example,
   and it would add zeros to make it “000fff” (or maybe it was “fff000” I don’t 
   remember) but anyway, it certainly wasn’t the same color as “fff”
