  • first you have to create a custom menu for primary menu and then go to Appearance-theme options-category color

    I believe I did as you describe. I then cleared my cache. Changing the settings in category color made no difference. The colors on the primary menu remain as red and light blue. Any other suggestions?

    OK, now I think I see what is happening. It only applies to categories which only apply to posts. Is it possible to apply categories to pages?

    I want to build a company website, not a blog.

    I think I’ve got it. Sorry to be so slow on the pickup.

    Am I correct in thinking categories only apply to posts? And in thinking the primary menu is based on categories?

    If those are the case then it appears the primary menu is of no use to me. I deleted all the categories and all that is left is “No Categories.” Can the “No Categories” be removed?

    no, its the default category.
    the color can also apply to pages. not necessary only category.
    wp-admin->appeareance->theme option->page color.
