 * Hi. I hope this is the right place to post this. I’m not sure if it’s a WordPress
issue or a theme issue. In case it helps, I’m using Weaver Xtreme for my theme.
I want to use submenus in my site, but I wasn’t sure how to make the top level
of the menu not go anywhere, so I followed directions I found on a couple different
websites. I created a custom link menu item for the name of the menu, put ‘#’
in the field for the link, and then moved that to the top of the menu and moved
other items under it. This works well in most ways, although I’m open to other
ways of creating menus if they would work or look better, but the menus seem
to stay expanded by default. I can collapse them by clicking the top level link
in the menu, but for accessibility reasons and because I think it would look
better, I’d like to have the menus collapsed by default. Is there a way I can
change them to make them collapsed by default? I don’t know CSS, but I’m willing
to edit CSS somewhere if needed. Thanks.

 * Have you resolved this since the time you’ve posted this topic? The sub-menu
is only open on hover, it doesn’t stay open. If this is resolved, when you have
a spare moment please mark this topic as resolved. Thanks.

 * I’ll take another look at this. It may be an accessibility issue. I’m blind and
use a screen reader and the menus don’t seem to be collapsed for me when I move
over them with my screen reader’s review modes. I’ll mark this as resolved and
repost in the accessibility forum if there’s still an issue.

 * Ah, OK. Yeah, it works as expected visually. It’s quite likely what happens on
a screen reader is different. I don’t know enough of screen readers to comment
further. WP core only provides an unordered list of links as a menu. Menu appearance
and behavior is the responsibility of your theme. You may need to go back to
the theme’s developer for a solution. Feel free to repost in accessibility if
you think it’ll help. Thanks for coming back and clarifying.
