Code inserted in pages doesn’t work

    This is a local install.
    I’m using a child theme of twentytwelve.
    This is a little-bitty four-page site, no bells and whistles.
    The site is finished except for adding content to the four pages.
    Everything works fine.
    So I try to add code to the pages, and the code doesn’t work. It just shows up as text. I’ve tried several pieces of code, and none of them work. Even such stuff as <p>What’s wrong here?</p>, and . The markers show up just like they look.

    Any help is much appreciated.

    You need to add HTML using the text tab in the editor. It sounds as if you are using the visual editor.

    Hey, Keith:
    All codework is being done in the text tab. I tried it again today. Same thing: code reads as text. Even with something like this, <p>Hi there!</p>, it all reads as text on the page. I can’t figure it out.
