Code in header not working

    I tried adding the recommended code in the header.php but instead of showing the banner it outputs the code text… 

    if(function_exists('drawAdsPlace')) drawAdsPlace(array('id' => 4), array('before' => '<div class="ad">', 'after' => '</div>'));
