Hi, I believe there is code from this plugin showing outside the main content on our website. I was testing the plugin to see if it was what we wanted to use. However, I didn’t notice at the bottom left of the screen, there is the code showing live: [wprevpro_usetemplate tid=”1″]. I’ve already deactivated and deleted the plugin. How do I remove it? I didn’t realise we are not hosting our website either, so I don’t have direct access to the backend.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

The plugin doesn’t automatically put any code on the front end of the site. Someone must have put that shortcode on the page manually. You will need to find out who did that and get them to remove if. I’m curious how you de-activated and removed the plugin without direct backend access to the site.

Thanks. It was just me working on testing out the features of the plugin. How does a line of code get inserted onto the live page below the main content, if I can only access pages/posts/plugins, etc? By backend, I mean real backend, not WP Admin.

The line of code, which is the shortcode that the plugin uses to display reviews, doesn’t get inserted automatically. It must be copied from the plugin manually and then pasted either on a Post/Page or in a text widget. It can also be added to the theme php files. You would just need to delete it from wherever you pasted it.

If I pasted on a page, post, or widget (btw I don’t even have access to widgets), why is it persistent on every page outside the main content? I do believe the plugin has altered something. If it is in a PHP file, that is not because of me. As I said, I don’t have direct access to PHP files.

If you have access to the WordPress Admin > Appearance > Theme file editor, then you can make changes to the php files of the theme. You could put the shortocode in the footer php file for example. See if it is in there for example. All I know is that I didn’t code anything in the plugin that would automatically place the shortcode on the site. It has to be manually copy/pasted. I’m not really sure how I can help. Do you have a backup of your site that you can revert to?

No, I don’t have access. Most options have been disabled by the agency the company has selected to fully host the website. They will charge us $250 to roll back the database backup.

Are you using any plugins that add text or code to all pages of the site?

Not that I know of. I’ve tried using WP Rocket to clear the cache, but I think it must be some other conflict caused by the plugin in the backend (that is still there after deactivating and deleting the plugin) that I’m unable to access. I wish I saw it earlier so I might know exactly when it appeared. I understand that there’s not much I can do, as I don’t have access to where the shortcode has been inserted as a text string.

One thing that might be worth trying is to de-activate all plugins temporarily and see if it’s still there.

I think that will only help when there is an active plugin conflict and narrowing down on what is causing a conflict. I can’t see if your files have been completely removed/deleted from the database. I can only assume that when clicking on “Deactivate” then “Delete” that all of your Plugin should be removed. However, I noticed that when I reinstalled the Plugin, I didn’t have to lookup my Google ID, as it was already pre-filled, despite not being logged in to any account with Freemius. I think this Plugin must be faulty to cause an ongoing issue like this.

Solved. I found I had added the shortcode to a global footer that I totally didn’t recall. I thought I checked everything, but there was this one submenu under Code Snippet “Header/Footer” and I was checking it for another reason and found my error. Sorry for the inconvenience. Nothing wrong with this Plugin.

Great! Glad it isn’t the plugin.
