[Resolved] Co-Author Plus and WP All Import

  • Hi I am trying to import content from a different CMS and assign these imported posts the correct guest author during import (using WP All Import) to WordPress. Everything works except assigning co-authors. I have tried associating the correct information on import to the following custom fields cap-display_name and cap-user_login , but my guest author does not associated to my imported post. Also, I did not try cap-linked_account because my guest author does not have a linked account. He is just a guest.

Some more info. The guest authors are already in my WordPress. I am not trying to import the guest authors, but just trying to import the post and associate the guest author to that post during import.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Did you include the author taxonomy in your export / import? It’s the data CAP uses to manage byline associations.

Hi Daniel, thanks for replying. I am exporting from Drupal and importing to WP. I have the author username and display name in my XML which I associated to cap-user_login and cap-display_name. And, again, these guests are already in the WP. Is this what you mean by author taxonomy?

Ah, I didn’t realize you were doing a migration.

Behind the scenes, CAP uses an author custom taxonomy to manage relationships between WordPress users (and CAP guest authors), and their authored posts. You’ll need to create these author terms in order to persist the relationship.

And this relationship still exists even though my guest author is not a word press user? Basically there is only one WordPress user (editor). That editor is going to upload future posts and manually y assign a guest author to the post.

Yep. Because WordPress doesn’t natively support post to post relationships, and guest authors are actually just posts in disguise, we use a custom taxonomy to bridge the gap.

Is there any online documentation on this. I should “read the manual” before I exhaust your patience. 🙂

There isn’t, unfortunately. With what you need to do, I think you’ll need to write some custom code or hire a developer.

    Right. I agree. thanks.
